Atomic EFI and More

I am very new to the forum and I have seen very little in the way of things about the Atomic EFI system. I have seen some positive and some negative reviews on it.

I recently acquired a 1986 IROC that has a 350 CID in it with a holley 650 and a 700r4 transmission. One of my friends ordered the MSD EFI system but was unable to utilize it due to other things added to his engine. He is really trying to get me to buy this from him but I am not sure if I really want to or not.

I am looking at buying the kit from him along with a MSD 6AL kit from summit that includes the ignition control, blaster 2 coil, pro billet distributor, and wires. I will also be buying the required fuel pump and regulator to make the system work. The car already has a return line piped in it so that is of no concern to me. I guess my biggest question is whether or not it would be worth dishing out the dough for this setup.

I am in Kuwait with the car so my options are limited as far as different things I can do. I thought about a LS swap but that looked even more pricey and I am not sure if customs will give me grief when i try to ship it home with a totally different engine.

Some like this program: dynamicefi.com

I would chose the port fuel option, add a performance products manifold(low cost) and rails and injectors possibly from summit or fuel injection connection(rebuilt), and an LS TB with edelbrock low profile elbow. and a stock rebuilt GM distributor...

As mentioned multiport would be better.
And the 6AL doesn't give you the ignition control, the Atomic computer does. But it needs a signal from a CD box in order to work, and you don't need an MSD brand box either.
You should be able to find the pieces needed to multiport, they're everywhere. From there you can choose the computer you want and have a more modern system.
Remember ALL throttle bodies are just electronic carburetors. They will have the same inherent distribution issues as a carb would on the same manifold.

Re: Atomic EFI and More

I know the Atomic gives me control as you stated there has to be some type of ignition module to utilize that function of the Atomic....or at least that is what the instructions were telling me.

The engine already has a edlebrock manifold on it. I am just researching as much as possible and getting as much info as possible before I make the plunge. The only part that worries me about custom building a MPFI system is there is no place here in Kuwait that could assist me in tuning the car in correctly.

I have been looking at the Holley Ram system and it looks nice but that is also a lot of dough to toss out there. I just know it will come to a point where it would probably be cheaper to do a LS1 swap.

I am just the type of guy that researches everything the best i can to make the best educated guess i can to accomplish what i want within reason.
