ECU Identification

So I had this car for close to 2 years now, it's an 85 tuneport IROC that's had a 350 put into it (unsure of injector sizes, ESC module is correct though).. Today I got bored and pulled the ECU out to make sure it was the proper one for a 350.. took the plate off of it and saw something that surprised me..

A Hypertech chip? I don't know anything really about ECU's.. is this something I should be happy about finding?

Awesome thanks for the lead.

Yeah, from what I read the chips just run the engine rich at WOT and kick the fans on earlier, also from what I read they require a 160* t-stat which I'm not sure I have.

I guess it's better than stock though? Haha, even if the gains are minimal.

Re: ECU Identification

There's usually minimal changes from a stock bin, usually in the higher load (WOT) range, a little more timing.

It's not something to get excited about, but also not something to be disappointed about either.

There were at least two flavours of the Hypertech Chips, one was a "Thermomaster" that required a 160 stat (Still don't understand why people want to run their engines so cold), and one that didn't require the low temp T-stat, IIRC called a "Milage Master" or something like that. Run the part number through Google and you should be able to find out which one you have.
