ecm issue/identification

I bought an 88 Firebird Formula as a project. It is a 305 (F) Auto.. I found it has TWO ECU's sitting in the car. The first is ECU # is 1227165 and has a Hypertech chip # 127041. After researching I found this chip does not go with this ECU or my car. The other ECU has a faded part # but has chip 16055376. Reasearch shows this chip to be correct. Can anyone tell me definitively which ecu# and chip # came in the car??? I have a lot of rabbits to chase with this car. lol (injectors aren't firing/replacing all fuel lines/etc) Any help will be appreciated!
David

Re: ecm issue/identification

The 1227165 is the correct ECM for your car. VIN F being a TPI set up.

As for the 16055376 chip, I can't find that anywhere. What is the three or four letter code on the top of it?

As for which chip is the correct one for your car, that is difficult to say. The rear ratio and transmission type affect this. Along with the tire speed ratings of the OEM tires. Then many of the calibrations were succeeded with updated ones.

On the top the chip has AKFR 1608 2187 on one side and 16055376
On the side it has 68767 94307 3
I'm sure there are more numbers under the blue cover.

The 16055376 may be the number for a blank EPROM, don't keep track of that so not sure.

As for the AKFR, this is for: '88 Firebird, 305 TPI, with either the 3.27 or 3.23 rear ratio (9-bolt versus 10-bolt ratios), 700R4 trans, and Federal emissions, no VATS.
