Trouble understanding ALDL codes

So here's what is hapening. I'm having an occasional ses light on my car. Sometimes she starts poorly, the idle goes really low after any amount of throttle and driving when I let it coast. So I decided to check what the code may be. And I've looked high and low and can't seem to find an article that really lays it out for a guy like me. So I jump terminals A and B. I get the code 12, flash, pause, flash, flash. 3 times. Then it blinks 1, 2, 3.....1, 2, 3.....1, 2, 3.....it does this 6 times. So I'm counting 18 flashes. Then it goes back to code 12 three times, then relays the same code again. So what is this? Am I reading it wrong? There is a nice 2 second pause between the 3 blinks. But the blinks are rapid, 1, 2, 3. Someone please she'd some light.

Re: Trouble understanding ALDL codes

Looks like it may giving you a code 33 depending on your year, make and model. Pointing to either your maf or map sensor. Please update your profile so we know what vehicle we're working on. Thanks.

Re: Trouble understanding ALDL codes

Oh so the blinking 1,2,3 is the first number. Then the 1,2,3 is the second number. And it repeats the number 3 times just like the code 12. Got it. And I just updated my profile. It's a 1987 trans am gta, with a 305 tpi, 5 speed. And I tried cleaning the maf this weekend to see if it was the problem but apatently it's not due to a dirty sensor. The filament inside seems to be completely intact.

Check out the link. Gives you a little more info on the code. You can also do a search on the forum as well.

Re: Trouble understanding ALDL codes

When first checking, getting a "12" (blink-pause-blink-blink) is perfectly normal, and pretty much tells you the ECM is operating.

It's the blinks AFTER the "12" "12" "12" blink pattern you're looking for.
