Getting ripped off?

Hi Im new here i have a 92 305 tbi with vats completely shutting the fuel and crank off.. a local guy is charging $200 for a vats chip with stock tune. Should i go that route or buy my own chip burning equipment and do it myself? Thanks

Yes that's quite a ripoff.

Re: Getting ripped off?

You need an ALDL cable, tunerpro, a prom reader/burner, a spare EPROM ideally, and an adapter for a memcal probably.

The stickies up top in the two tuning forums are pretty helpful but can be confusing for noobs.

You could also put a resister in the VATS wire and bypass all that. I know fourth gens can do that I assume it's very similar in third gens.

Re: Getting ripped off?

For $75, I'll burn you a factory chip with the vats turned off. I'll even supply the chip if it's a 2732 and ship it priority.

Jeeze...

What some people charge for stuff like that.

To eliminate VATS , there are a couple of different ways . Yes , you could have a chip burned with no VATS , or you could try the 75 cent resistor bypass providing the VATS module itself is still functional , or if the VATS unit itself is totally dead there is a small cheap aftermarket circuit board that can trick the ECM into thinking VATS is present and working . I think I've seen the aftermarket VATS elimination module for around 40 or so dollars . This of course requires wiring know how to install , so if you have no wiring know how then by far Xwarp's 75 dollar chip sounds like the best option for you . It's all depending on how far your willing to go , wiring wise , as to what the final pricetag will be .

Re: Getting ripped off?

Hell, I'll do it for less than that. I don't know why I stated that much, but hey, if you were willing to pay that much, then 75 would be a better price.

In any case, send me a pm, I'm up for bartering and can burn chips as I have an eeprom programmer.
