I am lost and hope someone can point me the way out of this PROM craziness. I swapped a 350 into my 1985 Sport Coupe and learned I also need to change the ESC module and the knock sensor to those for a 350. I have ordered them and they are on the way. Where I am lost is regards to what PROM I need to use for my application. My Camaro ECM has a number 1226865 on it, which does not match the one most discussed here in the forum and my car has a 4BBL computer controlled carburetor. What chip is needed to maximize the power of the new 350?
I read somewhere about a chip for a 91 Caprice cop car, but I am pretty sure they are TBI. Would that particular chip work for my application even though I have a carburetor? I have been advised that I could continue to use the ECM as is but the engine would not be optimal, which is kind of the point of the bigger motor. Mods include Edelbrock Performer intake, headers, 3" exhaust, flow master cat and muffler, so nothing exotic. Any help would be much appreciated. I just need to know what I have to order to make this car growl. All cleaned up and ready to run!
No one does chips for the CC carbs and you are correct that the TBI chips are completely incompatible - different computer entirely.
The "chip" on the CC carbs only affects idle and closed loop operation - which is cruise conditions, etc. It has little effect on WOT operation. It's still a carb and subject to the normal q-jet jetting and rod calibrations.
