How to get my ecu tuned?
Hi. 85 TA 5.0 TPI. I cleaned up much of the engine bay.. de-smogged and egr delete. As i understand it.. with egr delete i now need ecu tuned so engine will run properly. .. Can anyone tell me how i can get my ecu tuned? As i haven't the ability or equipment to do it.
Thanks

He can set you up with that pretty easily, you may want to consider deleting cold start injector and going with 89' start sequence and a base tune. With a 180 thermostat and a basic tune your car will run cooler and feel more responsive.

What ever "de-smogged" means, I assume you removed the AIRS pump, catalytic converter and all plumbing/hardware. You either capped the ports on the exhaust manifold or converted to headers. You might want to elaborate on what you did exactly.
Problem with removing the AIRS, is the ecm is tuned for it. Whenever the AIRS is pumping air to the exhaust manifold (port), the ecm is adjusting the O2 sensor signal to account for extra air. AIRS pumps to port mostly when engine is cold in open loop. Nonetheless, tune needs to be adjusted to disable AIRS.
1985 TPI has a 1226870 ecm with $1F mask. Not much support for this. Some will upgrade to 1227165 ecm and use $6E mask but need to delete the cold start injector (CSI). Now, don't quote me on that, but your MAF sensor might be different in '85 than '86 to '89, which would require a MAF swap. Again, you might want to research all this stuff. There are differences between TPI/year:
'85
'86 to '89
'90 to '92 (no MAF, speed density)
For the EGR, you should get a code 32 if you removed the valve. So yes you need your tune modified. Check with @Tuned Performance like @Reddragon88gta said.

85 is a digital maf 86-89 analog , I don’t do much with $1f anymore but $6e the 1227165 is a great upgrade the problem is finding a ecm fir a reasonable price right now. Thread Starter

Re: How to get my ecu tuned?
The data on the Mig is inaccurate.
Here's an old test log from an 85 C4 running a modified 870 ecm with an analog Ford maf:
https://datazap.me/u/tequilaboy/blow...5&mark=224-123
The ECM mods consisted of installation of a socket booster and 28 pin eeprom along with the removal of a resistor. The MAF input circuit is the same as the 165 ecm's Vmaf input. The Fmaf input circuit is different. My conclusion is that the 85 tpi MAF is analog, not digital. The programming was also modified to adjust the MAF transfer function to fit that of the new sensor. Seems to work just fine with an analog sensor, but I don't have much data from this particular car.
