Hello everybody,

New to this place and need help!
I hope maybe someone here can help me figure out what kinda PROM i have for my Pontiac trans am -88 350 TPI 5.7L.
The thing is i'm suspecting my PROM is starting to failure due to lack of power sometimes when i drive my car.
Could someone maybe point me in the right direction where to get a new one?

Is the eeprom soldered in securely? Any codes 41 or 51 thrown ?

 

What i can see from the looks it has been soldered sometime in the past, maybe the soldering gone bad.
Regarding the error code 41 or 51. Do i need some special Scan tool to see error codes?
I can add that i’m fairly new to this car.
Or do you have any clue where i can get a hold of a similar PROM?

You can blink the codes by jumping the aldl pin a to b.
if it’s a non vats AKXX or AKXY code, vats would be AKXZ .
im not so sure your issue is a bad eeprom you might be able to find a all stock memcal on eBay for 88 350 automatic.
closest I have in stock form is a 89 vats 350 automatic that would work if you have functional vats.

Sorry maybe a dumb question because my head is taking in alot of EPROM information atm.
What do you mean by ”vats”?
Also tried to look for the aldl but seems like my car is missing one??

Vats- vehicle antitheft system. Does it have a pellet in the ignition key ?
the aldl should be knee level on the drivers side.

 

Another question if got this right, the SST EPROM that is soldered on my memcal is not a original EPROM?
Maybe some program issue then?
