ECM or not to ECM?
I have a transplanted 1988 305 ci motor and a 1992 4L60 trans both from a Firebird and I'm wondering if the ECM has anything to do with the TCC lock-up method/system ?

Re: ECM or not to ECM?
Yes, the ecm controls the torque converter lock up on that trans

Re: ECM or not to ECM?
I found from another forum the ECM has nothing to do with the TCC lockup and its controlled by vacuum. Now I'm confused.
By the way whats your "expertise' on this subject not beating you up just curious.

Re: ECM or not to ECM?
What's to be confused by? The lock up was computer controlled on the 92 fbody transmission. It also did on the 88 fbody. My expertise? Like credentials? I'm not bothering to list that out. My expertise, like opinion? Use an ecm or mock up a torque converter lock up using other methods. Vacuum lock up switches were also used.

Re: ECM or not to ECM?
E refers to shifting the gears being electronically controlled. The torque converter lock up is still ran by the ecm in the 88 and in the 92 f body. The gears shifted without the ecm on these cars, hence the tv cable.

WOW REALLY that's what your contribution is. Your contribution leaves a bad taste in my mouth because these Forums are to get and give answers and help for people trying to find answers to what they "don't" know very much about. Getting the best/ right information is WHY someone asks questions. I'll ask you this how did you get so smart OH YEAH YOU ASK QUESTIONS TO GET ANSWERS didn't you!

Bit of advice
If you are going to doubt the validity of answers you are being given, maybe state in your original question that you expect a full write up of credentials with any answers being given...will save people from wasting their time trying to help you.
Also a google search of "4L60 vs 4L60E differences" nets hundreds of thousands of results in half a second. You could even search "4L60 vs 4L60E differences site:thirdgen.org" to get specific results from this forum only. That nets about 9,000 results in half a second.
