85tpi ecm ?

Does anyone know the difference between the 85tpi 870 ecm and a 89 to 91tbi 746 ecm? Is it only the programing or are there internal differences? There both C3 type ecm's but obviously one is mas and the other is sd. I'd be willing to bet that there is a big difference in source code as well. I guess I'm really just wondering if the hardware is different as well.

The only thing is common between those ecms is the AL case.
