Besides for on-line where can I find the Pocket Programmer, I never see them for sale on e-bay or on these classifieds, I really want to get into burning my own chips, just need the equipment.

I've been to their webpage but I was wondering if there was anywhere like Radio Shack, or any other stores that carry them regularly.

Not radio shack, they're pretty much just a cell phone store now. Any good electronics store should have some sort of eprom burner in stock. Look in the phone book and start calling around.

I found a couple of sites when I searced EPROM on yahoo. 2 of them had free plans and pictures of how to build your own burner for about $30 in parts from radio shack. Only thing is they werent car sites so Im not to sure if these burners would work on our chips, or if the software would be compatible with them. Anyone else know? Ill try and find the sites again and post a link to them.

As Promised, Here are a bunch of sites that show how to build a burner. I listed them in order of best to worst (I think) Now I just need one of the experts to tell me if any of these will actualy work to program our chips. If so Ill start building one this weekend.

I also found this thing that plugs in in place of the chip and works as like an active memory that you can edit on the fly. Lost the link to it though.

Just a sugestion.

If you decide to make your own programmer make sure that the software it comes with will support flash Eproms.

Trust me, they are so much easier to work with.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks Dan

But I still need to know if these things will even work on the type of chip in our cars? Im really new at the chip stuff and I dont know how I would be able to tell. So if someone could get one of the chip burning experts to take a look at those links it would help alot. Thanks

It appears to me that the second and third links you posted will program multiple sizes of chips including the ones used for these ecms. The first and last ones seem top be purpose built programmers (for a dvd playuer and atarti games) that wont work with other size chips. None appear to support flash chips.

I guess Ill just save up and buy the pocket programer then, I dont feel like going through all the trouble of building that thing if its not going to work.

This programmer works for sure because this is what my good friend build me and i have been using it for 2 months now. It works great and it supports all kinds of chips including Flash Eproms. (check out the software for it to see it yourself). It works as good as PP if not better.

You can buy theirs or you can assembly it yourself(parts sheet included). If you don't have much electronic knowledge i would just buy it assembled.

You can also download their software but you gonna have to register it, or if you know good places on the net you can get a registered version without paying a cent.

Or you can just buy a PP. Your choice.

Thanks Dan,

Big relief to not have to spend the $150 on a PP.
One more question though, which one of the programers from that site do you have? there are a couple different ones.
Oh yeah, is the software similar to that Tunercat program that everyone uses with the PP ??

HI.

The one that i have is homemade but if you want ot buy an assembled one it is the Batronix EEprom Programmer 3.2.

I am not sure what you mean by saing if the software is similar to the Tunercat program.

The software you get/download is independent of Tunercat/Winbin. Those two programs are for working with your prom image that give you meaningful numbers but the software for the programmer allows you to place the edited image onto the chip.

I am using Winbin to edit my bins.

Good luck.

No need to explain yourself. Most of the question I ask don't make much sense either. As long as there is somebody willing to help we should be OK.

I am new at this also. Been burning for few weeks now. It s very addictive but costs next to nothing once you have all the equipment.

Have you downloaded the software for that programmer yet?
Check it out and i bet you will be amazed.

That web site is from Germany, I wonder how long shipping would take to the US?
