Optimal Set-up for Newbie + Lit. to read

I need a list of all the gear needed to prom burn and aquire data. Im looking for the best stuff out there. also looking to get my eyes on as many articles, posts, etc. as i can. I catch on quick so lay it on me. (read the intro but i wanna know what u guys think is the best gear to use).

I cant vouch for these being the best, but heres what I use

Craig Moates software for scanning,
and AKM cable
a old pos 133 del laptop
pocket programmer 2
at29c256 chips
tunercat

if you want inof on stuff, just do a search on your topic, most questions have been answered before so you can save yourself alot of headaches just by doign a search here or searching the diy-efi site and archives...
