808 conversion not yet a success

Ok, I got everything wired up, put in the 808 bin from Tomcat, and I can't get WinALDL hooked up. The SES light flickers when I plug the cable in. (which is an AKM cable with the 10k resistor)

I can get WinALDL to hook up in 165 mode, so I know that works.

I checked the 808 bin for codes, just got 12 (so that's good).

I tried starting it, and it run, but poorly, around 400-450rpm.

Any ideas? It's getting late now and I need to get to work tomorrow, so I've switched back to MAF for now.

Alex

What combo are you running.
Is the cold start injector unplugged

Strange winaldl should work on the same wiring pins

Check that you are putting the 10K between A9 and Earth , and the data is coming into winaldl on A5

You can send me your bin that you are using and I will check it to your combo

89 TPI 350, so there's no cold start injector. I used your bin but changed the injector constant to 0.1330. Well, to the best of my ability, since WinBin only shows 2 decimal places. Looks like there's 10 steps between 0.13 and 0.14 so I just went up by 3 increments past 0.13.

The A9 and A5 you refer to here is the ECM connectors correct? I'm plugging in to the ALDL port under the steering wheel. Maybe the wiring between those points are different? What kind of cable do you use for a scantool? I might look into building the 2 transistor interface that could patch into the ECM wires directly... I've already cut 7 of the wires, might as well do a couple more.

The SES flickering is really weird, I've never seen it do that before.

Hmm... I think I see the problem... on the 89 $6E, I've got the data going out on pin A8 from the ECM... so I think what I will do is connect the wire going to pin E and M at the ALDL port to pin A5 at the ECM when I'm in 808 mode.

I think that will work as a temporary solution until I can convince the 808 to go into 8192 baud mode.

For the 85-88 guys (mask $32 I think?), how does your SES behave when you've got the scan tool hooked up?

That particular 808 code wont go 8192 , the $5A will but not fully hacked yet

send me a email and I will send you the latest bin I did on the dyno and I will put the correct BPC in for a 350 - mines resolves to 4 decimal; places

Ok, for the other people wondering what's going on, I edited the ECU file to display the injector constant in milligrams instead of grams, so I could see all the significant digits... turns out that WinBin rounded the values up so I was looking at a constant of about 0.127... way rich.

I haven't had time to test it yet, but I should be able to tonight.

Winaldl needs to be connected to A5 which is the check engine light circuit to read the data - not sure if it is in your yank aldl connectors ?

Thats why no connection

Ok, an update: I got the scantool hooked up by switching A5 from the ECM to the wire that goes to the ALDL port (was A8 on the ECM).

Problem is that the MAP sensor reads 5V and the TPS reads 1.3V, with the engine running. I'll try to get a hold of the guy that sent me the MAP sensor to see if the wiring is different.

Seems to me that the MAP sensor should read 0V with the engine idling? What about when the engine is off?

Depending on the cam you have, from 1 to 2.5 V at idle.

It's alive!!! I feel really dumb, when I first went to check the continutity in the wires I forgot to disconnect the ECM connections, so somewhere inside the ECM, there was a connection that fooled me, I though I was tapping into the ground of the TPS when I was actually going into another black wire.

Everything seems to work, although I didn't have any time to fiddle with the tuning.

Thanks a lot Tomcat, you've been a great help!
