In the case where you have a very agressive advance curve (IE. ARAP), does the ECM remember where the knocking was occuring and then only advance it that far the next time?
If ARAP is so agressive with the advance, I can't think how else the engine would not ping eveything you start it.
Mark.

There is "no knock learning" in either the MAF 165. The SD 7730 ECMs do have an "octane retard routine" where it will pull timing out and is VERY SLOW to restore it. This is for the "bad tank of gas" situation.
This "octane retard routine" is reset when you turn off the ignition. Unfortunately, the stock heads are so prone to detonation that with this routine that tends to pull too much timing out (and very slow to restore) that it actually works against you IMO. I actually disabled my "octane retard routine" and chose to control my spark curve with lots of "testing and tuning". But only the SD 7730s have this routine, not the MAF 165 (that I have found).

Thanks for the info. I had thought there was no spark memory as such, but I'm getting older, so I figured I'd ask. :-)
It seems my choice is to hurry up and get the prom burner ordered so I can do more than just dabble with these things.

Do a search on "Flash Prom" or "29C256".

Thanks.
I already emailed Craig earlier today about the adapter.
Unsure about the EEPROM, but it sounds like a good idea.
Already have UV eraser ... and an old old OLD heathkit burner which I can't make heads or tails with.
