Winbin instructions?

I'm just getting into PROM burning, and I downloaded the newest version of Winbin. Is there anywhere olnine where I can get instructions on how to use it? Right now, I just have the VATS taken out, code 32 masked and the EVAP taken out (I think). I have 19 lb mustang injectors, what do I have to put in the injector constant tables? How do I convert lbs/hr to grams/sec?

I'm abount in the same situation you are. I have a 87 305 TPI and I've upgraded to the ARAP.bin and I think it work out of just dumb luck. I'm using Craig Moates software to monitor the ecm and I can see where the blm is not at 128 but I have no idea how to use winbin to fix it. I think that this would be a good thread for both of us if someone is willing to take a couple new guys through the motions.

Anyone interested?

Guys, I would read Trax's article at the top on PROM burning first for some basics. I used Craig's software to download the PROM image from my car (which I just sold BTW). You have to have the correct Mask (ex. 32B, 32, 6E, etc.). This identifies to WinBin where the various tables, parameters, are located. If you need a 6E mask (ex. 6ev009.ecu) and open your .bin file with a 32b mask (ex. 32bv001.ecu) some of the data won't make sense. You might make sure that the fan-on/fan-off temperatures are reasonable, for example. If they're not: you probably don't have the right mask.

Once you have the correct mask, start WinBin and click on Edit and start poking around. You have to update the checksum every time you make a change. Write everything down and make back-ups. You'll need chip burning equipment and depending on which chips you're using may have to "double-up" on the image. Make one change at a time.

I'd concentrate on reading your existing .bin file and trying to understand it, then search on a lot of the old posts and it'll start making better sense. There's so much information on this board it'll blow your socks off.

good luck

I know this is unsolicited, but you might try GMECM Edit as an alternative to WinBin. It might be a little clearer and easier to use than Winbin (but ultimately thats for you to decide).

It uses the same ECU file as Winbin, so its a direct software swap.

Give them both a try (winbin and gmecm edit).
