8746 woes - any problem in a 1988 car?

I just tried transplanting my 8746 with a custom chip into my 1988 sport coupe with a 350 and the car won't start - it just turns over and over and over and....u get the idea. Is there anything one could overlook? I just replaced the 8746 chip with my new one and plugged it in - i'm figuring it should work. Any help would be great - thanks again.

Did you check the pinouts? How about the stock chip?

the pinouts? if those are the metal pins in the computer that the harness plugs into - its fine. And i wasn't sure to try the stock chip in the computer b/c the only chip i have left is for the OLD computer which isn't a 8746, its a 8036 or something. Argh

If VATS is enabled in the 8746 PROM you will have a no start condition.

Correct

So if its disabled then my car should run????

Correct, if that is the only problem.

What is vats anyway?

An anti theft system. A quick search of this board for "VATS" will get you the specifics. The FAQ off the main page contains some info too.
