Cold Start Questions
Cold Start Questions
My 89 when first started when cold, never stalls but bucks, burps, farts and hiccups for about 30-45 seconds until it gets some heat in it. The throttle response is also bad like a missing accelerator pump. It blows smoke and smells of raw gas. I pulled 10% fuel out of the open loop % change vs coolant temp and it got worse. Now I assume that recducing the values in this table I am subtracting fuel? It seems like its rich because of the smell and the smoke but the hesitation tells me its lean.
What is the best way to determine this on a cold motor running in open loop?
TIA guys.

Well, I know it may not help you right now-but a wideband is the only way I dialed mine in! I went back and forth too, and just couldn't seem to make it run decent on cold start till I hooked up the wideband, increased the closed loop timers to max and scanned it for temp at the same time-then record the f/as at temps; then adjust, wait for iut to cool and start over again....
I'm afraid any other way is hit and miss-I figured out I was going too far both directions.
If no wideband, try adjusting the open loop f/a vs coolant temp by only 2 at a time so you don't overshoot, and try try again!

Thanks for the reply. Did you make your own WB O2? If so, where are the directions?

I bought a wideband from www.fjoinc.comIt has input for rpm and a 5v along with the f/a and logs it. I can't do without it now!
