Pros-cons Crossfire in a 91 Truck
Pros-cons Crossfire in a 91 Truck
I was wondering if I could use the stock 747computer to control the crossfire setup? Would this take knowledge of the source code or could I use a code for a crossfire setup and adapt it to read my sensors and output to the guages?
Just thought it might be a good cheap power boost, but I would think that a TPI system might be better.
Are there anyother systems that might work?
Thanks for the great forum.

Lot's of people are using the 7747 with the Cross-Fire.
You will find all the info you need for the swap here:
http://www.crossfire.webhop.net
There are even a few Cross-Fire 'starter' bin's made for the 7747. With one of those you will get it running quite good even without tuning.
The Cross-Fire is a tourqe manifold so it will probably work great on a truck.

I ran a Crossfire off of a 747 for years, same sensors, just different ecm connectors.
You can make a Crossfire breath as well as a TPI for a lot less money. Cutting back the runner roofs, and using lid spacers to increase the plenum volume are great power boosters. As is installing 2" butterflies.
So would you say that I would it have more tunability then a Edlebrock system.
Would it have more power then the Edlebrock?
I think I know the answers, but I was just hoping for some cheap ideas.
btw there was a crossfire setup on ebay for 250 yesterday.
Will I be able to use the same Ignition system, knock sensor, speed sensor...
Thanks again

Bonus...Crossfire has no external runners and T45 torx bits!

Silverado,
I have seen Xfire setups for less than that. You might want to cruise www.crossfire.webhop.net and look at the for sale section also. The 7747 makes the Xfire very tuneable especially with all the knowledge you have here.

If you mean the Edel Truck conversion, it uses the oem ecm. So you have exactly the same tunability. If you mean the one system that uses the Marelli ecm, you can't edit it at all.
$250, you gotta be kidding.....
Twice I've bought 2 SYSTEMS for $20.
Yes, 4 setups for $40.
$40? Really?
Damn thanks I'll make sure I get a good deal then.
Does anyone know if the truck sensors will work with the cross-fire setup?
I researched and I can't really find any real answer.

Ok what about the dash?
I think it will require knowledge of source code to get this dog to hunt.
Or can I just use eveything off the vette and make it fit in the dash?
Unless some one speaks up I need to worry about which one would be harder, source code or all the wireing.
I have taken code classes, but I don't really think it applies. I do learn quick, but I don't have alot of time, classes are tough this semester.
Any comments? I feel like I'm at a fork in the road, because I'm thinking about an intake and heads, but I would like to help Grumpy w/ the source code, if that is the way to go.
Anyways thanks.

Why do you want to use the dash from the Corvette (84?). I don't know anything about the truck dash, but I think it should work.
The Corvette dash does not use the same sensors as the ECM. It is only the MPG that is transmitted from the ECM to the dash, and you will lose that with the 7747 anyway.

The only wiring modifications I see are to the injector and iac wiring. Lengthen the injector wiring as they will be further apart. Tie in another iac plug. The Crossfire has an iac on each throttle body. The '91 small cap distributor will work. Other than a few bracket modifications it a pretty straight forward conversion.
I understand that the equipment will operate, but will it all work with the same Eprom code for the Cross Fire. Like will the increased load from the second IAC cause effects i.e. a fire
Or would the same MAP sensor work, and if I understand right the CF didn't have a knock sensor. Does the CF setup use the same type of Electronic Spark Control as my 91? EGR?
Anyway, would I experience similar gains if I just went to a carb maifold instead. My main thought is that I'll have to rigg up something either way. So I would like to get the best performance with an easy setup.
I know that no one has done this before so I don't expect gospel, or any facts, just thoughts. I don't mind buying some stuff, but I don't really want to change too many things. Especially if the money could be spent somewhere else that would give me a better combo.
Thanks again
matt
