PROM location

I have a quick question. Where is my PROM located? I have a 86 trans am 5.0 TPI (lb9). I was wodering because I read about the Techical Service Bulletin on the 86 5.0 I think I might need to change it. Also how hard is it to change? Any help would be appreciated thank you

Ha! Reminds me of another response that someone gave. A guy asked "Does my car have a chip? How can I tell?" The answer was "Yes your car has a chip."

Your chip should be located as part of a Memcal assembly inside an aluminum box called the ECM. The ECM can be found behind your 'glovebox'. Drop the panel on the passenger's side up under the dash area by your feet, and then there's another panel (2 screws) which gets dropped. You'll see LOTS of wires going to it. There's a 2-screw cover plate once you get the ECM out...

One more question. On the Technical Service Bulletin the bugged PROMS were ones with an ID of 8646 or higher. (86 being the year). I have not pulled apart my dash yet, but my scan tool says that my PROM ID number is 8293. Would this one be the one that is affected by the bulletin?

Well if you are saying that the first 2 digits indicate the year and your first 2 are 82........impossible TPI didn't exist before 85.

I "think" the proms that were bad from the factory were just the 85 & 86, someone forgot to cover the UV windows before they were exposed to daylight.
