The first one. If you look, you'll see it's bidirectional as it needs to be for 8192...

can all of the grounds be hooked to the ground that goes to the 9 pin connector? look at my picture and see if you understand my question.

All grounds should go to the same place, pin A.
You will use pin M or E for serial data. Your connector should be 12 pins, not the 10 pin in the picture.

okay this may be a dumb question, but all the little things i circled in red on my previous post, are grounds correct? and what is the 1N4148 thing?

correct they are grounds. The 1N4148 is a diode, one end of which is going to ground.

You have a thin red circle around the line from pin 3. This is not a connecting point. The circuit connects at dots on the diagram. If two lines cross and there isn't a dot, they don't connect.

ok, finished the cable hook it up and nothing, ya thats right nothing, I think that the MPS2222A package is labeled wrong, i have a ttached a drwing of what is on the back of the package versus what is on the diagram, is this my problem? I hooked the transistors up accodring to the package and not the diagram

The drawing on the transistor package views the pins from the bottom. I had trouble with my 1 transistor cable on one computer but it worked on two other computers.

Go to Yahoo and do a quick search on 'npn transistor' and 'diode direction'. You'll want to understand what the deal is. There are a couple of very nice & brief summaries out there that will give you good background...

E or M, take a look and see what hole is full of metal.

I know many people have said it works. Haven't tried myself though..

I can confirm that the 2 transistor cable works fine with Craig's software.

hey morley

hey, i finally got it to work, dont ask me but i had to put a 10k resistor betrween pins a&b is this normal? it makes the car run like $hit! Any way when it wnet into graigs software, only some of the variables would display, is the because of a bad connection? I am running a Toshiba 730xcdt laptop P100 2gb HD 16mb RAM. I was thinking would it give me a better connection, if i pull down the aldl connector, and splice into the back of that, then i can just roll out the cable when needed, and just pop in that 10k resistor, and im set! If i am full of crap let me know:lala:

Make sure you have a 10k resistor in there (yes you need the 10k), might want to try another one to be sure.
Also use 110v power for the laptop and try it again, a weak battery or trying to tap into the laptop for the 12 volts for the cable will cause partial data streams. Use the vehicle for the 12 volts for the cable.

your laptop will work just fine for the scanner, I am using a Tecra 500CDT (120 mhz processor) and it works great.

ok, where would i hook up the power from the car too? would i splice that into my cable? or do i just need to hook that up to the ALDL? i have attached a picture, I have circled two spots on the cable, where should i hook the 12v into?

AHA! Been trying to get the moates proggy working for MONTHS!

Made like 3 cables. and now I see, I think i've been putting the transistors in backwards.

I'd run the moates softare, and turn the car on. it would print

Last byte recieved: 0F or FF, or C0

But would never link!

OKie. That was the problem. Anyone whos having problems with a moates cable should be linked to this post, Tim.

Flipping the transistors around seems to be an obvious mistake, but I never thought about it until I saw this post and. whalla! I did it wrong.
