PP2 Problems and newbie questions

This is a copy of a reply I put on my other post. I have been reading through and searching all the posts on here and I am still not finding anything to help me. Here is what I have so far:

Craig just emailed me and he confirms, the half moon on the chip faces away from the handle. All night I have been trying to just erase my 2 chips that I have. I am using the 256 EEPROM chips that I bought from Craig with my adapter. The program is finding the promgrammer so I know that works. When I click on Program Compare in the PP2 software, it says "Device CAN NOT Be Reprogrammed" When I click Blank Check it says "Device is NOT erased" I the correct PROM selected and I have clicked on Move Buffer several times. I was able to burn 2 chips and they seems okay but they never worked in the car. *this why I suspect my adapter may not be working or maybe the chip did not burn at all.

What am I doing wrong? I have the chip in the programmer right and I have ver 1.52 of the PP2 software. Can I just burn another bin to the chip without erasing it? There are alot of things I do not understand and can not find expliantions to.

Q1 what does it mean when people say you fill the buffer with FF's? I have tried the "/b copy file1+file2=newfile" method of filling the chip and it still does not work. I have been able to verify the file that is created is 32K

Q2 Check Sum... what is this? How can i use it to help me?

Q3 ARAP.bin from what I understand so far, this is a bin people are using that gives them more options. How do I get one? I checked the diy efi.org site and can not find it.

Q4 I have the Craig Moates ECM adapter and I need to know how I can go about testing it to make sure it works. I am getting the constant SES light when I try to burn just a stock chip using the mask32_fba.bin from diy efi.org. The car actually runs good in Limp Hoe mode but i know that is not correct for it.

I am using Tuner Cat editing software if that makes a difference.

The PP2 software has almost no support and does not give any explinations on what to do. I am sorry about all the questions, all of this is just racking my brains. I am very computer literate so I know what I am doing. I never realized the learning curve was so steep on this stuff.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the pp2 is a lot different from the pp? But on the pp the notch is towards the handle that locks/unlocks the prom in it.
You're using the at29c256 proms? Then you don't have to erase-just reprogram over the old program.
Try just changing the start address to 04000, that should work instead of a double bin.
Also a lot of folk have had problems with anything over windows 98. What os are you using?
I can email you an arap if you can't find it, but you should probably just try changing fans etc until you "get the hang of it."
I'd just hate to see ya ruin your engine in a worst case....
Don't worry, you will get it all dialed in, just takes some time at first!

Hey Drive It, thanks for replying. Yeah, I have the chip in the right direction in the PP. Its only in Craig's adapter it goes the other way around.

I was changing the start address to 04000 but I was still burning the double bin file. I will try it this way over the weekend.

If you could email be the ARAP.bin I would really appreciate it. I may not even need it if I can get this other to work. Should I be concerned with the messages the PP2 software is giving me?

Thank you for the support
