88' Cold Start Elimination ----> ARAP bin woes...
i want eliminate the CSI on my 88' ROC. well here we go. i have disconnected it and works great while hot, no probs. the problem arises when i try to start cold (in the morining) it will not start. ok then. i reconnect the injector and it fires right up. i go ahead and burn an arap bin on to a prom i have laying around. the problem i'm having and wondering is..... when i have that the arap bin loaded on the prom the drivers side fan is always on.
the check engine light is not on. i load up the stock bin and all is normal. all i want to do is eliminate the csi and have good cold starts. anyone have a "good" 89' bin laying around? maybe all the arap's i'm downloading are corrupt or something? can anyone please help:hail:

i did some more searching and found something of the a/c switch being n/o on f-bodies and n/c on y-bodies. i think that solves the fan problem. i have a 88' IROC 350 TPI, A4, 2.77 . what's the bin that matches my combo except in an 89' equivalent? where can i also get a good arap? my car also idles funny with the arap i have(lopey). thanks again guys.

i was afraid of that. i just took a look at the wiring digrams for the dual fans and that was the result
. i guess i have to do some re-wiring to get the comp to control both the fans.
i burned a AUJL bin. now it turns 3-4 times before it fires up. what can i do to shorten crank/start time. thanks again guys.

i've done some more searching. i found something about Crank fuel PW multiplier vs. referece pulses. 89' AUJL bin
this maybe what i need to modify to shorten start time.
i don't know what values i should enter in what value field.
edit: i think i know what i need to do but winbin is not letting me increase the values. in 1-8 or any other box for that matter.

i can't change the values in the 1-8 fields.
i don't know why???? anyone else have this problem? i highlight the value box and use + and - keys. they do nothing. i even tried maunally entering the values and still nothing. can someone help?

Ok, this is going to come across as stupid, but.. which +/- keys are you using? It may not work with the ones on the keypad, I don't know as I use my laptop to do my edits. Try using the +/- at the top of the keyboard and see if it works then.

i was using the one's on the keypad. it was late yesterday and forgot about the other ones. the ones up top work fine
. sorry for so many questions but i'm trying to get more into the Prom burning :nods:. has anyone made the stock rev limiter $6E work under winbin? i try and the when i re-open it the value instead of 5500 RPM is shows 37.25 RPM
? the hex value also has also changed obviously.
thanks again for the heads up Morley.:hail: Thought that might be it, you get used to the key pad and forget that a lot of older programs don't recognize it.
I've never tried to mess with the rev limiter but you should just move the hex address up or down until the RPM matches what you are looking for, least thats how other RPM/MPH windows work.

I agree with Goneracin. But also move the values up in that table with the multiplier vs ref pulses. Should start sooner.
On the other hand, you may need to take away fuel in the crank fuel PW vs coolant. I have the exact same ride you have, messed around wiht that table, but not much help. Mine starts opposite of yours; fires great cold, but cranks longer when warm. I was adding fuel in that table, but no help. Went back to the ARAP values, and moved the multipliers up in the ref table.
Do a search on "ARAP cold start cranking" or so, lots of posts on this topic.
On the dual fan setup, might not want the ECM to control both fans at the same time. They draw lots of power, an can really tax your electrial system. Also, the ECM coil driver may not be able to drive 2 coils. Just install a lower turn-on fan switch for the secondary fan. You could stick it in the radiator or just replace the factory switch. If you can keep your ride cool with just one fan, more power to ya!!!

Good to hear another CSI-to-ARAP success story.
On that rev limiter and WinBin, that's a bug in the WinBin problem. You'll probably have to go in and edit the hexadecimal directly. Problem comes up when you have a 2-byte 'word' as a value. Happens with FI size also in some cases. Easy to fix, but...
...Will there be any future work on WinBin? I'm guessing not, been stagnant for a while...

Mike,
Good call on the coil issue. I've never had given it much thought. i have left the fan wiring alone.
Craig,
I thought that there was a bug in the program. since i'd change it and when i saved and re-opened the values were significantly diffrent. even manually edting them will not work.
i'd be very nice for an update, but i can't really complain. without the software working as is i couldn't have done what i did
.
i need to work on my cold starts now(turns over 4-5 times) . warm starts are now acceptable(1-3 turns).

You check the archives here, you'll find something about the addressing for the crank times. Thought I remembered that there was a part of the table not included in the ECU file. Look around, you'll find it for sure.
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ap+crank+times
Maybe it's been fully addressed there, not sure what else came in...
