newbie : recalibration

Hi,

I was suprised to find a subject on prom burning, with such a good content here.
I'm not a F-body owner, but a Corvette (C3) owner, but I'm planning on changing to a TPI setup and trying to recalibrate the prom for the engine involved.

My questions (hope the are not to broad to answer) :

- Is it possible to retrofit and recalibrate for a pre-85 engine ?
- Do I need a dyno to make a good calibration for this ? All I could find was that testing needed to be done at a track or the street, but this seems not a real option.
- Can a TPI run with older style HEI ?

Thanks

Yves

Sure, the smallblocks were all essentially the same until '87.

Dyno isn't a must have, but it would make the tuning go a bit faster, testing on the street shouldn't be a problem so long as you aren't doing 1/4 mile runs in a residential area.

Yes and no, depending on what you mean by "older" HEI.
"85 & "86 used the older design coil in cap dist., but it was computer controlled ( via the ignition module). If you want to use a 1973 HEI set up, then no.
