chip causing engine to cut off??

i was wondering if any of you have had a problem with a bad chip causing the car to intermitantly(sp?) cut off while under part throttle. I put a chip in about 2 months ago and for about 2 weeks didn't really have any problems. but since then i have had huge problems. a buddy burned me a chip to bump up my in-gear idle and a few other little tweeks... nothing major. the car will be driving and all of a sudden the engine will just die. sometimes it will crank back up immediatly but others it will take quite a while to crank back. and sometimes wont' crank after it hasn't been run for a day... no warning or codes. went through and checked the ignition, distributor etc. and fuel stuff... now my thought is that maybe its a bad chip... but i thought if it was a chip that it wouldn't be so intermitant?!! reason we started to suspect the chip is cause another buddy said that when you turn the ignition to the "on" position the SES light should blink once and then come on and stay on... well it wasn't doing that... it was just coming on and staying...

Dead chip, and or ecm.
1227165 ecms in general are good for games like that.
It will pay you to find a spare 165 that is good for moments like this. They can do a hundred weird things when they fail.

well i pulled the chip and the memcal that i had the chip in and put the stock chip/memcal back in and it ran for about 60 miles with no problems... so i am thinking that either the chip or memcal is bad
