The easiest way is to use a paper clip to jump terminals A+B on the ALDL and count the flashes of the check engine light. WinALDL and Craig Moates Software are free scanning tools.
my ses light will not flash for trouble codes.I have a cable that Mr. Ruse sold me.I can scan using moates software fine. But when I jump the a-b terminals I get no response from the ses,it just acts normal(w/ no grounded terminal).I wonder if the diag cable is the cause .I cant get a flashing ses w/ terminals grounded, not even a flicker. So there is no free software that retrieves trouble codes??What about a functioning shareware?

Everything works fine but just no response from grounding terminals. In fact I'm gettin a hard falt code, ses stays on sometimes and car runs rough. The car ran fine untill a few days ago started with the ses intermittenly saying on.I was hoping there was some free software out there that can get falt codes.I like moates software,it is very nice. But I can't get codes and I don't have accell.I wish winaldl worked for the 730.I love the way it logs&maps data.My autojunkray scanner pooped out on me.So now I'm stuck.what about car bytes?I've heard a wisper about it.

If you need to swap the MAT, I would look at using a relocated and use my "MAT Tables" to adjust. I found that with a 7730, that with the correct table and relocated MAT that I obtained better consistency than the stock setup in the plenum.
Also, if you MAT takes a dump, you can always stick a 4.7K resistor to "get you around" while you wait for your MAT sensor. The 4.7K resistor corresponds to 55*F. Better than an SES code which causes various "fail safe" code to invoke.

As for relocating, the best place is as close to the TB as possible. I am personally not a fan of the TB mounted K&N filters as they tend to pull in hot under hood air. But it does look nice.
thats why I use the tb mounted filter in the winter. But this spring and I'll need to get my butt in gear to make the cold air intake.I relocated the mat to get a realistic measure of the incoming air. What does your mat look like?My original one for the 85 was a solid metal sensor.
