Microsoft Windows Automotive (using .NET)

Does anyone see potential of Windows Automotive in the ThirdGen vehicle? Probably not, but it's some cool stuff.

As long as you don't mind rebooting your car every day or so...from experience, I trust Microsoft operating systems about as much as I trust a floatation device made of concrete.

Did you actually watch the video or read anything on that site?
It has absolutely nothing to do with running the engine or systems in a car, it's just a stupid voice activated computer system with a datalink to a PC on the car so you can be 'cool' and not even know where your daughter's soccer practice is because you can just have the directions sent to your onboard PC.
Applicable to a thirdgen. Sure if you're the type of person that has the cash to blow on a PC for your car with a wireless network connection so you can be less of a person...

Ouch Ed, little brutal there. I'm currently learning .NET for my job and can see how it may be used to control an engine (at least from an object orientated perspective). Wasn't sure if anyone was somewhat familiar with the Windows automotive stuff. Surely there's more potential than tracking down your kid.

I always come off mean, i'm just direct.
But seriously, i see no mention of engine controls on that, thats all.
Of course computers have potential. I could wire my laptop to run a LCD clock. Or self destruct. Or even run a car i suppose if you built the interface and worked it all out to run perfectly.
Maybe thats why MS doesn't mention it?
