really stupid chip question!!!
really stupid chip question!!!
I just bought a '89 GTA 5.0 5speed (haven't picked it up yet) and the guy who sold it to me first told me it was a 5.7. When he also told me it was a 5 speed I knew it wasn't. Anyway I did buy the car. I took it for a very short test drive (it isn't licensed) and didn't really discover anything wrong with it. But afterwards the guy told me he had put in a "performance chip" from a friend of his. Taking into consideration that most F bodies in europe are autos I figured that the performance chip he put in most likely isn't for a 5.0 5speed but for something else maybe even from another year.
Is it possible that this combination still works well or is it a recipe for disaster?
I don't want a setup that could hurt the GTA in any kind of way.
Please give me some advice on this matter....
Thanks a lot!

Well you could take the chip out and call the manufacture of the chip with the part numbers or hook up a scantool to it and see if anything is really off.
Since your car is a 89 you might still have the original memcal (chip) hooked up to the performance chip, like in this picture https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...om/1138117.jpg this is what mine looks like.

I just had another chat with the seller and he proclaims that it came from an identical car also with a 5.7.
Taking into account that he also thought this was a 5.7 this does worry me a bit. Suppose I have got a chip from a 5.7 auto or 5.0 auto what could this mean for the 5.0 5 speed?
