WB o2 a a safety device - Source code hac?

I have a new idea to implement in the source code, and I hope to be able to do it one day!

Since it is possible to use the 5 volt input of a WB O2 sensor into the ecm for datalogging, why not also use it as a safety device? If it sees the AFR go too lean while above a certain kpa, add this amount of PW? Or have it shut off the fuel all together (such as a rev limiter would)??? Keep from having a meltdown for Boosted applications??

Any thoughts?

Knock sesnor already does that, and the syclone code does a boost cut on excessive knock anywho.

If your talking about use on a public highway, the fewer things to go wrong at times is something to consider.

There's enough other stuff to do that will get you more, IMO. Cutting out all the frills and extras does seem to make for smoother running code, IMO. I dunno of a way to measure drivibility but reducing things seemed to really help.

Well, I was thinking more of a backup measure to use until you get the tune close, not necessarily something to run all the time. For example, I have no idea where I need to start on my engine once I do get rid of the carb. This would just be some protection.

Funstick, that is the direction I would like to go in the long run, also. I do realize the amount of work involved, therefore, I was thinking of just coming up with a "backup" routine to get going on it. I'm still just a beginner in the source code, so maybe as I go through it more, I'll understand it better....

A good winter project will be to put an ECM bench together. Once you start playing with the code it is a good idea to test it other then in the car.

An ECM bench will also help in understanding how the code works. It is so much easier to sit at a bench and setup scenarios then it is to get the car to do it.

I kept putting off building a bench until one code change flooded the engine with fuel. Started on the bench that day. . .

The one I offer takes up less space than a ECM case.... BW

I'm seriously thinking of setting up a 4th one.
And setting up a whole new work station just for them.
The more you look the more fascinating it gets.
I wish someone would now come up with a virtual engine. LOL
The one GM uses sounds, really nice. It's integrated into the dyno, for accumulaiting data, then they do a virtual engine, and then go out and drive the calibration.
Ford's drivibility stuff forcasts what the engine will want and then the scanner is just used to see how close they are.

I've been thinking I will want an ECM bench when I get deep into this stuff. I know for the basic tuning stuff, I wouldn't exactly NEED one, but for some of the other stuff I want to do, with the source code and all, I will NEED one.

You still have some available Saturn?

I have bare boards available. $50 shipped with instructions, pinout sheet and a parts list. BW

Once you see what you can really do with it you'll be amazed.
Just being able to walk thru the WOT stuff and be able to freeze frame thur it is really neat. No worries about what's going on with the DC / PW is just a money saver.
