11.27 @ 122.4 , new best again result of tuning.
Well guys PRP was running again today.
I bested again a new 11.27@ 122.4 through muffler, on DOT tires and on pump gas.
I have always suspected my converter to be locking to early
and hurting my times, the Dyno guy and myself also believe thats what scewed my results with the dyno.
Prior to today the convereter was locking at 75 mph or 4200 rpm
and dropping RPM down to 3900-4000. After finding that my peak torque was 4750 I changed to converter lock speed to 105 MPH or 5000 RPM - So when after lock it would drop RPM to 4750
(Peak torque)
That netted me my new best that I also backed up with 3 more 11.29's.
If by chance I get to the track again before year is over I will uncap headers and try to beat that... I think it should.
Oh also I dropped timing from 38 to 36 from 2800-3400
and also removed 2% fuel from that area.

Nice, and congrat's on the times. Don't let the dyno numbers bother you. There is much more to acceleration then the peak numbers. Your track times tell the real story.
RBob.
RBob.
Thanks alot Rob!
Yeah I'm not really sweating the Dyno numbers anymore.
I was talking to some guys at the track who went and paid to have there cars Dyno tuned - picked up 20 HP and TQ came back to track and both went slower.

Oops, mistyped. What I meant was:
Looks good! (not a ?).
...and that it'd be also pretty sweet if you were pulling those times on a 165 MAF ECM.
Those are some vicious times! How high do you spin the motor?

I'm not anti-MAF at all but with the restictive intake tubes needed in a T/A I lose .2 in the 1/4 - In the vettes and Camaros there is a short straight shot.
My shift light comes on at 6200 , Probably 6400 on the shift.
My digital tach stops at 6000 - But Craig Moates scanware confirms my 6400 shift points

Thank you trax
Here is another on that note, Wish I had one more current.
During these shots 60 ft was 1.60 and now is 1.54 best.
Still lacking converter.
I also would like to see some more pics,

87_TA,
If your lookin to get a better converter...I am seriously entertaining the idea of a different one. Mine as of right now is 4200 Stall, with 3 runs on it
By the end of the year,,,,it might have 20 max....
Let me know.

By the way, congrats on your new best!
Do you think that converter hurt your MPH? Or do you think that was DA / Shift points?

87_Ta,
Believe it or not, the way the car feels on the road with this converter is absolutely amazing. There is no difference in the way it rides now. I drive my dads car with a 3500 B&M and its MUCH looser feeling. As pissed as I am with Precision Industries handing out bad advice, I have to say they do give the best of both worlds when it comes to driveability. Hell my durango because its heavier, big azz wheels etc on it, actually needs more throttle to get it movin than my vette does. It sounds likes its revving more off a stop to get movin whereas the vette just slides out nice and smooth.
Not sure about the MPH, if I go to keystone I get 122-123 MPH there, other tracks I'm around 121. I have found that MPH on the strips vary quite a bit. THis summer I have hit about 5 different tracks and they all yield different MPH...even lane to lane sometimes is a rediculous change.
My shifts definately need work. The car is really pulling super hard now. This is no crap, but it actually makes you feel sorta sick afterwards. I can honestly say there is not a dull moment the entire trip down. With the 3200 stall, there was a flat spot right before the 1/8 mile, now its all business.
With only 3 runs, Saturday, it was very tough to iron out that the car wants. The first run I left off near idle and it gave the best 60' time. Next two I raised the launch RPM about 200-300, and they got worse. So now I know it wants a near off idle launch. I have never done it right off idle, but watching the videos of my bunny hops I do before staging. These are right off idle, my front comes off about 4" doing them, so I think its hitting harder from an off idle launch. That is probably why Corky was hitting 1.44 60' times consistantly. I told him to try a higher launch as that is what my 3200 stall liked and he seems to be getting real good times, now I need to do what he used to do. Crazy. Anyways that along with better (lower RPM) shifts will definately gain me some more ET.
Corky has been toying with his and has gotten it dialed in pretty good with what the car wants. He was running 10.91-94@124 all day long. That boy is FLYIN.
Anyways, keep that converter in mind. Hell for that matter you can if we are at the strip together some day, drive it around there to see if you like it. As I said its basically a brand new converter as it sits right now. And the stall is exactly at 4200 RPM. I can't believe how much of a difference in feel the 1000RPM makes. My car feels, sounds, and runs 100% different.
Talk to you later..

I'll chime in on the Vigilante stuff. Very driveable. I went with 3200, and wish I'd gone with 3800. Everyone pushed me higher, but I went conservative.
I've got a 5-disc Vigilante that's set up for 2400 stall, and I'm going to get it restalled (still free) by the end of the year to 3800 and see how that does. Still have the free stall left on the other one.
So just to recap, the driveability is great. At light throttle, it's like the stall isn't even high. Floor it, and it jumps up & the tires roast. With lockup programmed like you want it, mileage & street manners are a non-issue.

Where are you getting converters that offer free restall service? Any help?
Also, about the driveability side of higher stall converters... Did you guys have to make any chip changes when you switched stalls to keep the driveability, or was it just a parts swap?
I'm getting ready to start ordering parts and don't want to go to high (though I'm still going to stall quite a bit lower than you guys are talking on a 305 LT1 intake setup) and need some input to put my mind at ease. I assume a reletive low lock in first would be in order???

Bnoon,
Your converter needs to be chosen for your combination, hence the reason I gained from earlier in the year with this recent stall change. The stall is more suited for my setup now, and before it was good for my 350CI motor. Things have to jive.
Most of the higher end converters have 1 free stall upgrade. cost me 19 dollars and I basically have a new converter again. Not that the other one had any signs of wear etc.
For the money, and the performance he is getting I am grossly impressed with Corky's TCI 3800 non-lockup converter. He still gets 22 mph on his car! A tranny cooler will address any issues with heat. Sure wish I would have saved 300+ dollars and went that route. They too offer the stall upgrade.
Your cam pretty much dictates what stall converter you should have. You should choose your stall a few hundred under your peak torque the cam will make.

What I was asking was more on the electronic control side of things concerning daily driving lock up speeds/etc. Were there any chip changes you had to make to the lock up to keep your driveability with the high stall?
I'm not going to go with a non lock converter, not on this combination anyway. I'm still keeping the 2.73 gearing for the time being, but I'm planning on jumping the stall speed to at least come off of the line at a higher torque RPM.
That 22 MPG is impressive though. If only my 305 were as efficient as his punched 400... I'd get 30+ MPG if it were.

Bnoon,
There are some setting you can play with via the chip. However they are more for personal preference/desires. Gain can however he had if you find the exact spot where your Torque multiplication, and your lockup is set. That is more of a trial and error type scenerio though.
