You can either plug a ZIF socket into the existing socket, and try and solder the pins in, or remove the socket altogether and replace with a ZIF. If you try that, the best thing to do is to try and clip out the socket (or pry out the plastic part)as much as possible BEFORE you try unsoldering the pins, since its hard to do all the pins at once without damaging the circuit board traces. Also, the board has a coating, which needs to burn off with the iron, or scraped off. Craig Moates has a great run-down with pictures on his site at www.moates.net, he goes one step further than just installing a ZIF socket, he offers upgrades to newer chips which are flash, they don't require a UV eraser to erase.
