Real-time engine read out program?
Real-time engine read out program?
Been searching around and whadda-ya know?? I read some where on here about something from the infamous 2fast2furious
movie with regards to real time engine outputs. Anyway, they had rigged a small screen readout like the audio/video guys do. Exception was that they were using it as a digital engine read-out. I am looking for information or the software to work with this as I already have a computer setup waiting for install, however, I would like more information about this program or maybe a contact for who makes it. Maybe somone knows the name, with that I can just search these boards and find the thread featuring it.
Thanks for you time,
Mike

There are plenty of software packages avaliable for free that do exactly what you want, to an extent. At least they monitor the ECM.
Head to the DIY Eprom board to find out more.

Yeah, with the addition of a laptop you can do jsut that. The data rate will depend on what ecm you have. You can also save the data for further analysis. The screen would be cool, but of limited use while driving. Cant sit and squint for a long time at a small screen while the car is in motion.
Rather than buy a laptop, of which I have no use for, especially not the cheap old 500mhz models i would buy, I am basically building a desktop PC in my car. The sole purpose of this is, for now anyway, datalogging and other prom related programming ideas. Any of the reasons you would need to have laptop for the car will now be used on the dedicated system. Being able to also carry hundreds of thousands of MP3s on a hard drive is also much nicer than CDs. The possibilities are endless! :lala:
What are other methods to monitor the system with regards to ALDL? From what little I have seen, it is quite slow.

If your building a desktop pc into the car then youd just datalog liek you had a laptop. Pumb in the necessary wires into the rear of the ALDL and go. The data rate of the P4 ecms is quite good but the older tbi/maf tpi C3 ecms only send 160 bps of data, which is one complete transmit every 1.2 seconds.

I use WinALDL connected by means of OBD port to serial port - I've had the best luck with that. As far as enless possibilities, you're right.

Very old shot, I no longer have 3rd gen interior, but do have plans for a new pc system with the 4th gen dash
