rt tuner and romulator clarification

I did a search but i want to make sure ive got this straight.

you use the rt tuner software w/ the romulator to make real time adjustments and tuning...say at the track. then once you have it running how you want what happens? do you save the bin file and then burn that into an eprom for keeps?

this stuff works with a 749 ecu right?

Also, is a T29C256 eeprom compatible with all this stuff listed above? Id like to keep the neccesary hardware needed to a minimum since most if not all tuning would be done an 2hours away from home at the track.

thanks for any help you can provide. Im new to this prom burning stuff but it seems a whole lot cheaper than stepping up to an aftermarket dfi setup and ive found tons of good info so far here.

Forgot to ask. Can the pocket programmer and romulator run off 12v dc power?

Actually, you don't even need the Pocket Programmer while at the track.

Once you program the Romulator, you can even run the car off of that without the laptop at all. It'll act like a PROM chip. Make all of your changes, then come home and burn a chip.

Also, the Romulator does not need an external power source.

The Romulator is for developement work (unless they've recently changed that). So yes, when your done you need to burn a chip.

The only chipless setup I know of is the Prominator.

The Pocket Programmer, is 9v. So a cheap rat Shack cig lighter 9v supply will work.

Ues, the PP will do 29C256s. If you get a used one thou, you'll have to double check that, the newer ones do.

Get a junker laptop for $50 and use that.
The Eye Candy of XP isn't needed for tuning.

And if you dash in for a coke, the cheapie laptop will probably still be inside the car when you get back. Nice laptops have a way of growing legs, and disappearing, or crawling behind a tire to take a nap.

Yeah, Xtronics stuff didn't seem to like XP that much. I ended up putting Win98 on my laptop and everything works great now.
