got my cable but cant connect
My cable came in but when I try to connect I get nothing. I have verified that the port works cause I can use another device on that same port and it set to use com1....so com1 works.
Im using a Mastach cable and its seems to be of very good quality so I know its not the cable.
I am able to use a paper clip and check codes so Im assuming that the ECM is workin too..
so what can I try now?
Ive tried to use both Moates and Winald..but no go.
Could there be something wrong with my port on the car? How would I check that?

Do you have your specific ECM set to the default in your logging program? I know ECM852's default setting is LT1, and winALDL is something other than the 165. Your com port may not have enough voltage or amperage output to power the ALDL cable, either. I have an older pentium laptop, and I have that problem every once in a while on a low battery. I'll charge the battery or plug the laptop into the cig lighter, and it'll connect up perfect. You may have to add a 12v auxiliary source to the interface cable to get the proper power.
I wouldn't completely rule out the cable either. High quality or not, everything can have problems
Good luck

10k resister in place (between A and B)? If using a 165, this is required.
good quality cable does not eliminate the cable from being bad. I had a great quality cable (ruse), but i ran into an issue after a bit of use - the 10k resistor between A/B broke at the base of the resistor. easy fix, but took me 1 hour of fenagling before i thought to take it apart and look!
moates requires you to boot to DOS mode if using anything newer than 98.
