Taking car in for service....

I know most of us love to kep our cars in our garage and not in a mechanics but i was reading over a hypertech's website ( don't worry, i'll be starting to Do -It-Myself soon and I don't be buying on of those, just reading around) but they mention taking our your hypertech chip before taking your car to a repair center because they look for the stock setup.

What happens if I start burning onto my chip? Do i have to take it out or will i loss all my info? I'd hate to have that hassle, but then again, some people call burning your own chip a hassle....

What they are saying is that if the mechanic hooks it up to a diagnostic scanner, it will not see the standard parameters that it is programed for and will give false readings. Knowing some of these mechanics, they will start their little thing of trying to fix things without consulting the customer until after the fact.

Yes, I would let them know first, or if I still had the stock chip and not a lot of mods that would affect it's functiioning. I would drop the computer and re-install it. No, you wouldn't lose your info. Their machines can only read the chip and won't write to it There are a lot of people on this board that are a lot more knowledgable about burning their own chips and they can give you more and better advice on it than I can. But I would definitely make sure the mechanic or customer representative made contact with me before they started tweaking things their computer didn't recognize and really made a mess of it .

get a bin switcher and keep your stock bin as a position on the switch.

however, this is bad if your engine is very modified, as the stock bin may run even worse.

so my ultimate advice is to leave it alone if you have a good tune. just make your setup clear to the mechanic. Or, better yet, fix it yourself!

A chip has to be erased for it to lose it's information. So there's no fear about removing it.

If you modify the engine enough, it's not going to run very well, if at all with a stock chip.

If the mechanic is a mechanic, he'll have enough smart's to understand you saying it has a non stock chip in it. If he doesn't then find a new mechanic, cause the guy your talking to, is just a parts swapper.
