park/neutral wire into 1227747

I am installing my 700R4 in my car, and want to put the park/neutral switch connection to the computer. Does anyone know the polarity of this wire? I presume that it needs to be grounded when the car is in park or neutral. Is that correct?

I'm assuming this because My wiring diagram shows a switch to ground, and then it says "Park Neutral Switch (A/T) (12V) (except P)" on the diagram.

Also, based on that description and the fact that this signal has a 100K input resistor and a diode to +5V on the schematics, I am assuming that it will tollerate +12V.

I am going to run my park/neutral switch to ground on one side, and to the computer and to a relay on the other side, so it will give my computer what it wants and still disable start when not in park/neutral.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The P/N wire goes to one side of the switch and the other side of the switch goes to ground.

Yes, I understand that. The question is, is it grounded when in park and neutral, or grounded when in gear (1, 2, 3, OD, reverse)?

Grounded for park/neutral, open for drive.

This isn't recommended. It will work, but idle control will be lost. It also affects areas of the fueling logic.

Yep...what Rbob said. That was one of the problems I was having when I first started logging with the Jeep. I hooked the P/N switch up and all was fine...till I found the #$#%@ vacuum leak I had. Now I gotta fix THAT!!!
It never ends...

If I have a manual bin, would it still need that input? Just wondering how I could work it out if needed. Maybe a switch on gas pedal, so that when not on gas, ECM would know I'm in neutral or park.

Left open, can even remove the pin/wire from the ECM connector. For a stick the ECM wants it 'in drive' all of the time.
