PROM Article revision

I'm going to start work on a revision of the PROM article. All suggestions are welcome. Please keep in mind that this article is NOT meant as an explanation of engine theory and exactly how to tune your car. It is meant as a primer for the 'mechanics' on how to modify a binary and then program it on a chip.

Obvious changes:
1) Moates and Mangus stuff! Definitely need to get a bunch of stuff in there about TunerPro, AutoProm, Flash 'n Burn, etc.
2) Ken and Bill Stuff! PROMinator ... anything else?

I'm thinking about deleting stuff that just doesn't belong anymore. For example, there is no longer any reason (that I can think of) that anyone would use WinBin. GMEPro makes sense if you still want to use DOS but I am almost tempted to delete that too. The less information the better for newbs.

Tim

Romulator is worth a mention. Obviously being a more advanced tuning tool, emulation in general deserves a mention as a "where to go after you're confortable," but shouldn't be focused on to too great a degree.

For anyone wondering here is a link to Tim's article:

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml

I think it would be helpful to have a summary at the end. One area that confuses folks is which laptop logger to use. Even though a 160 baud scan tool works on the '165 based TPI engines, a 8192 logger is more desirable.

RBob.

P.S. Thank you Tim, this is a great help to beginners.

Maybe add in the best starting points for each ECM.

I.E. "$6E fuel tuning is best done with MAF tables"

Although that kind of stuff could be seen as redundant I guess, we have the boards here for that stuff. Just an idea

It needs to flow. I think that there needs to be different articles based on which ecm is being used. This way things that aren't compatible don't have to be mentioned every other line.
So if I were to do it I'd have a general intro, then split it into a few different articles based on the c3 and p4, then go into more depth from there. Also having a seperate article/section for laptops would be a plus. Tables comparing different options are ALWAYS a plus. Might want to compile a table of scenarios (new laptop, Romulator...needs USB to serial adaptor, 7749 ecm, etc.)
Thanks for doing this Trax.
