big timing jump W/ temp - normal?

Scanning my car this morning W/ moates, I notice 15 deg adv , until temp hits 124, then shoots up to 30 deg at idle and stays there. Is this normal?
TIA, Jeff

No-one?
I don't recall this being the case anytime I checked the timing. I'm chasing a code 42 recently and could use the insight. Thanks

You will need to fix the code 42 problem first. That is a DRP error and will typically lockout ECM control of the timing.

RBob.

RBob, Thanks for the reply. The code 42 is gone now; what would happen is the car would run for awhile and then die: no spark. So I took a look at the dist. module ( 1 year old) and it had some rust on the screws and housing. cleaned it up, and now it runs again, but with this funny cold / hot timing thing. It's an aftermarket module, btw.
