This is odd ?!?

Ok, I put in Craig Moates g2 chip adaptor on my 8746 ecm. I tried to put the adaptor in my self and use the stock chip. That didn't work. I sent my ecm to Craig. He redid the solders and said everything looks good. I got it back and it still didn't work??? So now I think it has to do with A: the bin I'm useing( the stock chip is blank. How that happened I have no idea) is not the right one, B: My chip and hex addressing is wrong. I'm pretty confuse but i'm sure it is something simple. thanks in advance.

Sounds like when you were first in there, you may have zapped things with some static electricity. Or possibly using an ungrounded soldering iron, on a bad hair day. Using extreme care, and having done alot of soldering in the past, I messed up 6 ecms in a row doing less minor items then that.

Dang. Well what do you think about the chip and hex addressing? The ecm still runs in limp mode and the SES light is on constantly. Should I just try on another ecm?

Try loading you 27C256 with all FF's.
Then verify that.

Then load you .bin file starting at 0000.
Burn that.
Then verify.

Might try loading the .bin to itself 8x times to see if that for some reason cures it. It shouldn't but just as a hail Mary at this stage.

Then insert that EEPROM into the adapter and see what you get.

If it verifies all along, then the chip should be good. I have seen a couple of the 27C verify but not in fact work, and then when reverifing them they didn't. It's rare but it can once in a million happen.

If the chip remains verifiable, then the only thing it can be is in the ecm.

Ok I did what you said grumpy. I think the ecm is fried because that is the only thing I have not changed. So would any one know a place I could get my hands on like two or three 8746 ecm? I'm really frustrated. Is it supposed to be this difficult? I feel like it is not supposed to be this hard and that it just doesn't like me. Please let me know your opinion.

Some guys have the *knack*, and others don't. Read *knack* as luck, or some 8th dimension exposure that just allows the universe to flow thur them, and *get things* easily. Then there are folks like you and I, that just have to work our buttts off to *get it*. It all can be terribly frustrating, and drive ya nuts. BUT, in the long run it'll help you. Getting to where you can analyse things, and make sense of the less then apparent are the life experiences of chip burning. Like in Zen, it's not about the chip.
I really hope that helps, BTDT.

Finding ecms is just 1/2 luck, and 1/2 knowing people. Watching ebay, and personal networking do wonders.

Thanks grumpy for that helpful note. Man I just go a little crazy some times because some people do it the first time flawlessly. I'm just going to get my hands on 2 or 3 more ecms and get a few more g2 adaptors and keep trying until it works. MTPI-MAF those are a little expensive don't you think? My buddy works at a salvage yard near me and I can get them for nothing ( but I do have to what until some come in though) Thanks.
