TunerPro RT 4.0 beta testers needed

Hi Guys -

The time has come, or at least is near. I need about a dozen competent software testers and tuners to run TunerPro 4.0 through its paces. I plan to have a beta available this weekend.

The criteria for a good tester fit:

1) Good working knowledge of previous versions of TunerPro
2) Knows enough to be able to create a bin definition and/or ALDL datastream definition (very important for this phase)
3) Has an ALDL interface and/or emulator
4) Can write clear and concise emails stating the issue, repro steps, and expected result vs. actual result
5) An eagerness to contribute to the TunerPro cause

TunerPro 4.0 uses a brand new definition file format - the XDF file. ECUs can be imported, but you cannot save a definition as an ECU file. Additionally, many changes have been made to the ALDL engine, specifically to the way data is displayed and to how 160 baud data is acquired.

Here's what I need tested:

1) 160 Baud ALDL data acquisition - this is re-written in 4.0 in hopes to make it work with everyone's vehicle. If you have a 160 baud ECM/Mask and an ALDL interface, I could use your help.
2) Creation and modification of XDF files (XDF files replace ECU files in TunerPro 4.0).
3) Creation and Modification of ADS files (ALDL Datastream Definitions)
4) General Emulation testing (Ostrich, AutoProm, Romulator)
5) Prominator upload/download testing (no realtime as of yet)

Can you help?

Thanks guys,

Mark

More info...

The beta testing stage is not a stage for major feature requests. The main goal is to flush out bugs and major useability issues.

How to be a part of the testing group:

Reply to this post with your vehicle, ECM, and code mask, as well as any relevant equipment you posess (ALDL, emulator, etc). I'll PM or email the first 10 or so that fit the bill with details about how to download the beta version and instructions, caveats, etc.

The reason I'm limiting the number is that this will be a beta, and I'd prefer to limit the purveyance of a less-stable beta build. I lack time to support TunerPro enough as it is, let alone to support a buggy beta version. =)

I aim to test for about 7 days, after which I'll fix stuff and release the final version (hopefully by the end of the first week in January).

I'll help.

I have an '89 Safari with an L03, running the 7747 with the $42 mask. I'm using a Pocket Programmer 2 with 27C512 chips. I'm using WinALDL to get data.

I plan on getting a Prominator but I don't think it'll be here in the 7 day time span your working with.

I can help with 1, 2 and 3.

I'm not the most experienced tuner, but I know what I'm doing and I have some time to help out. I have a '7730 running $8D and I'm using the AutoProm for logging, emulation, and burning.

I may also be able to gain access to a '165/$6E car (converted from $32, and it might be possible to go back to $32 for testing purposes) but that's not guaranteed. The guy lives 90 minutes away. I also have various cars coming into the shop that I can hook the logger to, but I doubt I'll be able to stall the customers long enough to get the ECM out and try emulating.

I have 2-5 covered.

I'm running a 7747, log with winaldl and RT with a romulator. I'm not much on the datastream but if V8 or someone puts one together I will be glad to help out.

I'd be happy to help. . .

I've got a '91 GTA with a SD 730, another '91 Bird that will have a 730, and I've also got the Ostrich emulator... I also have access to a '88 4.3L TBI 160 baud S-Truck for datalogging. I've recently put together an .ads file for a $A1 mask 91-94 3.1L V6 730 (in process of doing final touches on it) and am now fairly comfortable with the conversion from the GM Datastream definitions to creating in TunerPro...

I'm on winter break from school now, so I'll have a little more free time, plus I have plenty of tuning and testing stuff to do..

If you need me, I'm here.

I can help Mark.
I can do all except test the 160 baud stuff.
I wrote my own .ecu for the $E6 '8625, and my prominator pro should arrive in the mail tomorrow! I will be using it to do quite a lot of tuning in the next 2-3 weeks as I have just removed the 7747 and have to get the '8625 sorted..

Me me me me <Raises hand higher>

8747, $4F,160 baud, ALDL interface, no emulator or speedreader yet, but EMP-10 and about 30 eproms. Already done the .ECU for $4F and have the appropiate .ADS ready to try.

Edit-Laptop is currently win 95. desktop is WinME.

I suppose I'd be willing to help out a little.

Not sure what I have in terms of hardware to interface with, but I'll see what I can scrounge up.

I'm willing and able. Current user of tunerpro, I have an ALDL interface and PROMintaor. I'm a registered developer with ATI Hardware as well as NVIDIA and often submit feedback on software -- though usually its low or high level CG languages.

I test software for my own company, create bug reports, track outstanding issues and all the fun that goes along with QA when an cg artist has not much else to do. So I'm familiar with the iterative process that is QA and feature requests.

1) 160 Baud ALDL data acquisition - Can do.
2) Creation and modification of XDF files (XDF files replace ECU files in TunerPro 4.0). Yep
3) Creation and Modification of ADS files (ALDL Datastream Definitions) Sure
4) General Emulation testing (Ostrich, AutoProm, Romulator)
Don't got one of those. . .
5) Prominator upload/download testing (no realtime as of yet)
Most definately. Been waiting for this.

I can help if still needed. Running a 6E 165 car and a 8D 730 car. Also I can test on 98SE, 2K, XP PRO and HOME. I am unable to help with the emulation part as I don't have an emulator yet.

Win95 isn't supported. (Mostly because registration fails on it).

Oh bummer. Guess I have to move my laptop up to 98 then, if i have too.

Wait.. Are you talking like controls registration, or the registration of it after you purchase it?

Just curious.

I'm very impressed with your program (nicer than the "other" Tuner) and would love to purchase TunerProRT (thinking of getting the Prominator).

Unfortunately, while there's lost of .BIN files around, there's no .ecu file for my ECM which is the 1227170 ($24) used in the 86-88 V6 Fieros. Do you have a source for an appropriate .ecu file?

Thanks...

I'm going to give you an option for you that needs to be strictly adhered too. You should buy the tdf file from TunerCat for your car. Then use his awesome tdf editor to make your OWN ecu file. From here you can NOT release this ecu file to the public domain. It is yours but you do not have the right to give it away or sell it! Tunercat put a lot of work into that tdf file I'm sure. So make the ecu file for yourself but until somebody hacks that ecm without using his original work don't go releasing the ecu file.

I know I have been out of the loop for a while, but I will offer up my services if there is still a need. My Jeep could certainly be used as a test platform for the 160-baud comms (1228746, $61, AutoPROM and TunerPro RT V3.09)

I have a laptop that runs win98se that I could test it on. I also use my own emulator that "looks" like a romulator to the software so I can test that part out.
I was wondering if the serial comms is going to change. I just tried the v3.10b and TunerPro acts strange with the emulator. TunerPro connects and shows the version of the emulator in the lower left hand corner as the correct version, but the emulator menu item is greyed out. Typing F3 doesn't bring up the dialog box either. This means I can't upload/download.

Is this a bug in version v3.10b or is there a special command sequence? CATS Tuner_RT works fine with it. I added the 'W' command so that v3.06 of TunerPro works with it. Version 3.06 does the upload/download and real-time emulate properly.
I see TunerPro v.10b doing the ('V') query and read the version from the emulator correctly. Then it does nothing. Is there anything special that it needs to see? The emulator responds to the following command sequences: 'e', 'E', 'V', 'R', 'r', 'W', 'w', 'S', and the undefined command (return '?'). In version 3.10b there isn't a preference box to choose the "romulator". Is there a place where I can select the "romulator" as the emulator?

The emulator responds to commands with a latency of approx. 10us so I don't think any kind of timeout would be occuring.

Found a little bug, Mark. Maybe I don't have the latest version. I tried to import an XDF from a TXT file and V4.00 crashed. What did I do wrong? Do I need to import from an ECU first?

Win98 SE

I'm now back together and ready to begin tuning again.
I've got the USB autoprom running 5.7L, 730, $8D on PII 800 Mhz, Win98 if you still need more guys to help with the debugging.
I'd like to put my commented hac to good use and create a file using the new file format and get a handle on it as well. (if nobody has done the ANHT/AUJP yet)
Either way, I'll be using TP RT alot in the comming weeks so I figured I'd offer my services.

- Please (always) contact me via email with bugs.

- What does it mean to import an XDF from a TXT file? This isn't a functionality I've provided.

- To make sure you've got the latest version, use the Internet update feature in the help menu.
