TunerCat Programming
Hi,
I'm new at this Website but i Was wondering if you could help me? I've been programming with TunerCat for the past two years or so. I've finally made a really good ECM version, good like at a cruzing speed (28mph) I can smash the gas to the floor burn out for about 3 seconds and get side ways shifting into second gear still burning out for about 1 second. I 've got a 1988 L98 5.7 TPI motor and 700R4 Trans. All stock (if you can belive that) only mod is no mufflers just pipes and i gutted the Cat and a 180 thermostat. I've done really good in depth tuning i think, I'd like to take it to the trak and see my 1/4 times with a stock version bin and my modded up bin, but it might be a while till i do that. FYI I'm pretty sure it will fail edmissions with the mod BIN.
What i was wondering is if someone out there could give me a Bin file in .TXT format one stock and one modded up so i can better understand what other users tweek in there ecm. Also what has been done to the car. I can as well give you my Bins in a .TXT format and share my information. Anything could help
Thanks Alot
Nick

www.moates.net (in the file section) and www.diy-efi.org have a modest collection of stock binaries. Im sure one similar to yours is available for comparison use, anyway.

Thanks for all your help, I went out to those sites. I found a $6 89Vette.bin file. I get an error when I open the $6 file with tunercat because I'm using a 32_B file and not a $6. I open it anyway to read some of the specs. It seems to look pretty close to the mods i have, but there are a few off the chart wierd setting, i think thats because the fact i'm opening it with a differnt def file. Is there a place(website) i can find a $6 Def file for tunercat with out paying for it. Or is the $6 and 32_B bins close match?
thanks

the $32b is for 165ECM's from 1986-88. the $6e is for the 1989 165ECM. The files for tunercat are made by tunercat so you wouldnt be able to find them elsewhere other than buying them from tunercat.
I am not 100% sure about the eprom types used in vette's but if you want to compare vette's to camaros try an 1986-1988 corvette bin.
the only difference I know of between an $32b and a $6e is that the $6e does not use a cold start injector found on the 86-88 camaros. now there may be other minor differences but that is the only definate difference i have ever seen.
Your values probably will be off when trying to load a $6e using the $32b conffig file in tunercat since they may have changed some of the locations of the varibles in that file...
If you really want to see the differences between the bin files without tunercat I would suggest using a hex editor (ex: http://www.winhex.com). You may even be able to do a file compare in winhex, I dont remember if there was that option or not.
I have not done any programming as of yet but I have done quite a bit of reading and soon will be burning my own chips. Hope this helps you out.

One more thing...
You could use the TunerPro RT from http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/ - if you are not familar with that it is like tunercat except that he offers the ECM definitions for free. Download the demo or free version of TunerPro and then both the $6e and $32b ecm files from that site and you can compare that way.

To clarify tunerpro doesn't "offer" the .ecu files. They are public domain. Guys on the boards made them and freely distribute them. Tunercat is great if you like to have an easy to use setup and is neccesary when you have an odd ball ecm that there isn't an .ecu for.
