350 running on LB9 ECU
350 running on LB9 ECU
Well I've tried a few different burns for my new motor from ANYJ to ARAP, and they just don't seem to be acting right. So to see how my new motor would do, i hooked it up to my old peanut cammed 305 ECU. Just so that i can know what to hope for, what type of gains do you think i could get with a properly tuned chip, just in the quarter?
C'mon guys, at least one of you out there has an idea. Just another side note: the cam has over .100 more lift and almost 30* more duration than the cam the LB9's computer coded for.

Start reading all the stickies and do a search :-)
Cant quantify your results that easily, depends on your eventual skill as a tuner and your diligence in optimizing the tune for your combo.
That cam running on a stocker 88maf setup is more than likely not very happy.
There are very informative articles in the sticky that will more than guide you along the way.

Well i know a post like this probably pops up 5 times a week and you could never really know without knowing all variables, but in this condition my car's running a mid 14 and to say the least, i hope for more. Just wondering if i have some other big hang-up or if it just needs a good tune.

If these were SD MEMCALs then the knock filters are different. On a MAF car the knock filter is a separate from the ECM.

Car: '86 IROC, black and sharp
Engine: 305 tpi, bone stock
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.42 pos w/rear db
For info:
I bought an 86 IROC that was originally a 305 TPI/700r4 car. The guy I bought it from put a '89 IROC L98 motor in it. It never ran right and he gave up and sold the car.
He told me it ran hot (I've never driven it long enough to know). It is hard to start, turns over a lot, starts to sputter and then dies. When you do get it running the idle will be okay for a few seconds and then drop off till you think it's going to quit before picking up to 1100 to 1200 rpm and then dropping back to normal for a few seconds and then starting the drop/climb cycle all over again (in between idling correctly for a few seconds at around 650 to 700 rpm.) It doesn't run any better than my other 86 IROC with a 305 TPI/700r4 (it really doesn't seem to launch as well, in fact).
It has all the 305 stuff bolted to a 350. The 350 is on it's way out and an 88 305 roller cam Formula engine is waiting to drop in.
Not help as in how to make it right, but just info on another car that wasn't changed over the right way and has problems.

That actually sounds very identical to the way my car was acting at first. After messing with the timing and fixing some vacuum leaks, even with the 305 ECM it's running leaps and bounds ahead of my old LB9. Can't wait till this thing is tuned right....
