Will no VSS hinder my setup?

Hey everyone!

I have a question regarding VSS. I'm using an '86 MAF TPI setup on an older vehicle that does not have a VSS. I'm using a modified ARAP bin. I don't have a VSS hooked up or my park/neutral switch hooked up either. Will either of these have an effect on the way my engine runs? It seems to perform top notch and run just fine. Granted, it thinks it's never moving and in park all the time. Could I be doing better if I had a VSS hooked up? I wouldn't even know where to start there. If it doesn't really matter, then yay!

On a side note: thanks to everyone for the information posted on this forum. I've learned so much in the last 3 or so months about tuning my own engine it's amazing. I'm making progress everyday. Some days it's bad progress, but it's progress nonetheless. What's funny is, I never believed that tuning EFI and chip burning would be so easy! I had a chip burned for my engine and it cost me $300, based on $32 code. I burned my own chip with a stock ARAP bin and the engine ran much better with the stock ARAP than the $300 chip I paid for!

I was skeptical at first...but now I see the light!

I had no VSS for a short while on my 1967 327. It drives overall much better WITH a VSS (I obtained one for my mechanical speedo drive 4 speed Muncie from Jaguarsthatrun.com for around $70). It is very noticeable how much better the throttle follower routine is when it knows how fast the car is going -- it almost rev matches my upshifts now, which makes the shift effort very light, and will no doubt make my new synchros last a lot longer. The engine also comes down to idle much smoother rolling up to a light -- it will hold a high idle until I am absolutely stopped. Plus, it is really not very useful to have datalogs that don't show your road speed -- how can you look at a half hour of data logs in excel and tell whats going on if all you have are rpms to reference. If it's not worth $70 to do this right, thats up to you.

It's much easier in the long run, to hook up everything as GM designed it. That way you have a known starting point.
