Newbie Question.

Hello,

I have a 1990 Camaro 305 TBI w/California Emissions, AT and just have a really quick question. I was looking at EPROMS for my car and found that I need a 2732A, but I found 3 different ones, which one do I need?

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/sto...oductId=117589

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/sto...oductId=117585

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/sto...oductId=117587

Those are all the 2732A's on that site, and I have no clue what the differences between them are. What would be the best option if they are all actually the same? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am just trying to learn here. All this is amazingly confusing but I know it's like clockwork for most of you so thanks ahead of time!

Also, will the transtronics programmer work with the 2732A?
http://www.xtronics.com/memory/EPROM.htm

I put the number on the support list and it couldn't find it.... So does it work with this certain EPROM or no?

Thanks again,

Steve

Any 2732 will work for you, as long as your programmer has it on it's *can do* list. If you look at the three URLs you posted you'll notice they are different in the -xx after the 2732A number, that is the programming speed, for your application, any speed will work.

There have been several updates to Transonics, so if in doubt, I'd suggest emailing them for an accurate answer.

On a side note, moates.net has adapters for soldering in a new prom socket that will adapt the 2732's socket to the newer flash prom's.(solder in an adapter socket that is 28 pin and modified for proper use)

I have not had a ton of 2732 experience, but i already dont like dealing with them and I havent destroyed a 29c256ee yet :-)

Even when I tried, short of plugging it inot the wall outlet lol

later

i have been using the 2732 for a couple years now. i attempted to burn 2 chips last night and 2 of 4 were bad chips? i think they have failures after multiple burns. i use jameco's and i find one in 8 are bad or fail after a few burns. i am sending in ECU this week to be prominated. i am starting to see CE light ("prom") and am thinking it is failing at prom or connection? yet socket prom fit seems good? rather than solder in a new socket it is better i upgrade.

Oh great. Seems I always run into problems. Now I find out that 2732's are crap and no programmer can run them..

Give me one good reason why TBI is good again?

QUOTE: no programmer can run them..

please explain?

i have been burning chips(2732) now since 07/03. only inconvenience i had was when PP2 told me "did not program". then i put in a fresh one and it usually works. burned a chip last night and all went well. which is the norm. my intemittant CE light may be due to a faulty ECU or the socket solder job done 2 years ago or push fit ZIF i was using. removed ZIF and now past week A-OK. i think i have intermittant issue with ECU not 2732 related.

i will have a eraser(bunch of 2732 chips) and PP2 for sale in a couple weeks?

I might be interested in the eraser, Chips, and what is PP2? Is it a programmer? If it is I would be interested. Let me know when you sell them. I want to be first in line
