I dont have the number laying around anymore, but it does work fairly well.

They have a little kit, one part lets u clip the chip in and install it and the other piece lets u grab the ends of the chip so you can lift it out from both ends at once.

Go to the store, all the Radio Smacks around here have it that I have seen.

edit: says 6-40pin DIP IC Inserter and Extractor Set.

#276-1581 under Radio Shack label(found the box)

an alternative is a ZIF adapter from Moates. press fit or solder in place of DIP socket. holds prom by spring loaded lever. less chance of bending pins on prom.

I also recommend this plan. I used to think was slick and nimble and then I broke pins off and then that ecm kicked crap.

Just some clarification for the new guy.

Until u get used to it, using the chip installer will help you alot. Way less likely to damage anything.

The tool is also helpful if u use the low pro zif sockets since they have a lot smaller opening than the larger zif sockets.

i dont know which one i got from moates. he emailed me and said to use some package that comes with the adapter, zif and two chips. i am going with the ostrich anyway so most likely i will do it once and thats it. i also bought the data cable from him too to datalog.
