Hi,
I have a 165 32B. I was finally able to gather data using WinALDL using a Radio Shack USB to serial cable (laptop only has USB) with a cable I bought from customefis. I used the 10K resistor jump and got data from either M or E port. The problem is as soon as I start the car, the data stops flowing. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i usually start the win ALDL after i start car? in fact i put a Radio Shack switch in the ALDL line and turn it on when engine running. easier flipping a switch than putting in the prongs(customefis).

Thanks for the quick reply. My cable doesn't have a switch but I'll try plugging the cable into to computer with the program running after the car is started.

I have a Vette, using the 165 and WinALDL I can scan with the engine off, start the car and it keeps going no problem. I dont know why yours doesnt do it though.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem. I am having the exact same problem.

I just got an aldl cable from www.aldlcable.com. I am trying to use winALDL to log my data. I have an 87 Camaro IROC-Z 5.7 so I believe I have the 165 ECM so that's what I selected in winALDL. The data is being read from pins E & M. Both pins go to the same place in the DB9 connector. I have the 10k resistor in pins A & B. I have tried it with and without the resistor. I am unable to get anything without the resistor. When I turn the key to the on position I get data in winALDL. There is a box at the top with the number 25 and it flashes green. It seems to work. When I push the gas pedal I can see the TPS number change. When I start the car I loose the data flow. The number in winALDL changes between 2,3,4 and it flashes red. I have tried this with and without the resistor. I have disconnected the M pin and tried to use just the E pin. I have tried changing the port speed in winALDL. I tried starting the car and then plugging in the cable and starting winALDL. Nothing seems to work. Why do I lose the data stream when the engine is running?

Sorry bud, I never got around to working on this because some fool wrecked my car while it was sitting in a parking lot I couldn't afford to be without transportation so I bought another car and until my house remodelling is done, I don't have a garage to work on it.
