What the HECK is wrong with my PPII/computer?
This problem i'm having is really pissing me off. I have the lastest software version for my PP2, running tunerpro 4.0, and i program any chips sucessfully. I didn't always have this problem, i used to be able to program chips just fine. Now, everytime i try to "program device" I end up with the message "device did not program." I have this problem on both my laptop AND PC. I even used a friends PP2 to see if that was the problem. I don't recall changing any of the settings or doing anything that i normally don't do. There are no other programs running in the background.
I've always run the program from windows, and like i said b4 never had problems with it. Using SST 27SF512 EEPROMs from Craig Moates, changed the device start to 0C000 hex.
I did have a problem with one of the programmers though... I had placed the chip in the programmer BEFORE i started the PP2 software on accident, which i know you're not supposed to do according to the read me file. The programmer and chip got really hot so i removed it right away. I assumed that this was the source of my problems, so i tried a friends PP2, but still have no luck.
One more thing, I made a 512Kb blank binary dummy file, and for some reason, the PP2 has no trouble programming that onto the prom, but once i load a real .bin file, i encounter the same problem. sometimes it'll go about halfway before the error message occurs.
Here's a screenshot of what i get:

You are aware that you need to erase the chip first before you attempt to write to it? Maybe try erasing it first and then try and program it.
Other then that I also had an issue with the 512 chips but that is because my programmer does not support it. Even though I use PP2 software you still need to have the PP2 programer too to make it work I think.
Not sure if you have the PP2 programmer or just the software.
I just stuck with using the AT29C256 chips

Yes, I always erase the chip b4 each attempt and perform a blank check to make sure. And yes, it is an actual PP2 with PP2 software. I doubt it has anything to do with the type of chip I'm using, based on the fact that i've burned several of these in the past with no issues.

So basically ever since the PP2 overheated you cannot burn chips?
What about your mates PP2 does that work with your chips?
I find it very odd that neither programmer works, since only one of them got super hot... which is why i'm thinking that there's something else that's causing this problem. I also tried swapping the AC/DC adapters with no luck. *shrug*
Well the only common thing is the chips maybe they are screwed.
You should get your mate to program using his PP2 on his computer with his own chip. Obviously that works for him as he has not got a problem.
Get him to test your programmer on his machine with the same chip he has had success with. If that works you know it is not the programmer.
And since you said his PP2 does not work with your chips then I am betting on the chips at fault.
Then you will know where the problem is before you start guessing.

I've had same errors. Remove the program with in windows then reboot. After reboot click start run type >regedit. Search for EPROM delete the folder. Reboot computer and install program again.

haha thanks man, Guess i've been into IT to long.
Why this happened most likey is because: If your PPII is not plugged into your computer and you deside to plug into your computer while it is on and running in windows and you open the EPROM program Window does not have enough time to scan devices and install device properly. So sometimes the best thing to do it plugin PPII while PC is totally off then boot up. Then again it might just need a PPII version upgrade i have version 2.0 and i seem to incouner error once in a blue moon. if you have a later version let me know i'd like to upgrade. Good Luck man
