g1 question

will the g1 work with out any prom at all? reason I ask is I'm using a zif on my sd conversion and I'm getting limp home mode periodically, I'm sure its because of the zif socket, so what I thought is buy the g1, and unsolder the zif completely and run no prom in the carrier other than the g1 prom.

The adapter replaces the factory chip in the circuit.
So as long as you didn't glob solder everywhere and short pins for the RFD and KS circuits you should be fine.
Sounds as if you need an adapter regardless of your current memcal condition.

Hey thanks. Yea I need an adapter. I was mistaken, the gp1 has the zif on it. I don't like the fact though I can't put the cover on it though even with a 730.

I haven't used a cover in about 2 years on the vehicles I touch. More on mine and haven't had a single problem. The only ecm's that NEED covers are those in the engine bay. Being inside the cabin there isn't much need for it. Maybe if it's laying on the floor getting kicked around

The ZIF comes off...Then the cover fits. That's assuming your done tuning.

I like the G1 adaptor and see no reason why I wouldn't continue to use it full time...

As long as the ECM is back in the stock location, it shouldn't be a problem...

My GN and truck have been running for years, without the covers.

You can take the ZIF off, when you're done chip burning, plug the prom into the adapter, and then out the cover on.

I got the adapter and zif socket from craig and I like it. I like the way the zif and prom can be interchanged when I'm done tuning. I still don't like the fact that I can't put the cover on it though but I'll get over it. It fits nice and tight with virtually no movement. With my old setup I could tap it and it would set limp home, not with this one I wiggled it, tapped it, nothing...perfect. It was shipped well too, Ups crunched the box but it was wrapped well. Thanks for the encouragement...I'm glad I got it.
