ya that's right, my Camaro took some skin tonight ....
i was in the garage and i set my chip to 1,250rpms ... but its always been at 1,500rpms at idle so i tryed agin and i ran it and everything seemed fine till it automicley increased the rpms and was sitting at 2,000 rpms... the check engine light stays on all the time
and i know if i put the chip in wrong it flashes nonstop anyways after i shut the car off, i went to switch the chip and i lost my skin and have a really BAD burn mark....
then i let the ecm cool down and put another one in
started it up and same thing got hot with in 10sec.... i have no clue whats going on

This will happen if VCC and ground are reversed. You are probably installing the chip backwards.

man glad i looked in this thread i was under the assumption that u could not install the chip but one way...i didnt think the pin headers would line up correctly, yet another thing i will have to keep in mind.
well, if the check engine flashs non-stop when the key is in the on position, witch means the proms in wrong cuz it cant find it....
this is the way its in when it flashs non-stop, i read that when it does that it cant find the prom....

That is correct way. check here: http://www.moates.net/documentation....entation_id=10 You must have a bad chip or soldered something wrong.

You have a 256K prom shown in your pic, and it looks like you're using an ecm that normally had a 4K prom.Originally posted by NEEDforSPEED

You need to have the .bin loaded in the right area of that bigger prom for the ecm to see the .bin file.
What ecm are you running?.
The Moates link refered to by someone else is for the G1 which is for another series of ecm then the one you're using.
If the SES acts screwy immediately turn the key off!.
Before you start the car with ANY new prom, be sure to just turn the key on, and wait for the blink on, off, and on again. If the SES doesn't do that DON'T start the engine.

How's the soldering work? If you want to send me the ECM, I'll have a look at it and see if I can get it right.
It sounds like you have some traces crossed or shorted where they shouldn't be.
In the picture shown, the chip is facing the correct way (notch toward middle).

You might take Craig up on his offer to inspect what you've got.
FWIW, my success rate is 1 for 7 on doing any ecm soldering, it's more difficult then it looks.

lol What Bruce said :-)
ECM work isnt fun and really hard on us normally blind folk.
I am 2 for 2 on ecm and 1 for 1 on a memcal :-)
Both ecms and the memcal were completely done and assembled and then torn apart and resoldered again to make them actually work right :-) Second time was thankfully the charm and a lot more time later they ended up working.
If u dont have someone with electronic etc background to test it/check it, send it to craig for a looksie. He's a good guy to deal with
later

Yeah, I've been getting pretty good with them now. Most of the retrofit stuff looks like it came that way from the factory now when I get done, unless it is a scarred-up rework

ok witch way do i stack these, im just going to re soader them agin make sure everythings right

Just like you've got it, assuming the pic of your ECM isn't misleading. Check here for more clarity:

I'm sorry, but you might need to restate your question. I'm not sure I understood precisely what you were asking.

No, but place it such that the notch is pointing inward.
