Re-pinning?

Did a search, and didn't come up with anything... Don't want to tear up my connectors, so does anyone have a good site/thread with a nice explanation as to exactly how the pins of the ECM connector are supposed to come out??

What is the original ECM? What is the ECM that is being installed in its place?

There are special tools available for removing them, it's a square *probe* with a slightly wedge shape to it.

There is the ecm pin side of the cavity, and then the blank side, insert something into the none ecm pin cavit and press it to the side, to release the *catch*. If you get to a junk yard, and snip one out, and then yank one *pin* out, it becomes obvious.

I use one of those small jewlers screwdrivers. Flat blade about 1/16". Just push into the little cutout/slot in the connector next to the pin in the connector.
It's just a little flap of metal sticking up from the ECM pin to keep the pin from being pushed out twards the wire side. Slight pressure on the flap to push it down to the level of the flat part of the pin and it will slide right out.

Fits most, if not all your cars connector pins, worked great on my repin, and haved used it several times on other connectors IAC, etc.. Cant remember the cost, but worth every penny to me, for my tbi to tpi, hopefully soon for my swap to the 749, as soon as I get my turbos installed.

I use whatever is closest to me at the time. Needles, small screwdrivers, safety pin bent back, small paperclip. Anything that'll get in there and push the latch so the pin slips out . No need for a fancy tool, just have some fine motor skills.

mechanics wire ground slightly flat on one side. Small enough with plenty of strength.
