Where to get OEM colored wire

Need to get hold of the OEM colors (including stripes) to add the appropriate circuits to my 7730 harness for the LT1 PCM swap. I searched through the net, but couldn't find anyone who carries striped wire, i.e. PNK/BLK, DK BLU/WHT, LT GRN/BLK, etc.

Suggestions?

If I was doing the swap I would use an LT1 type harness. You can use an LT1 wiring diagram down the road if you have problems. Someone else might be doing the fix besides you and will have no clue when trying to follow a 730 wiring diagram.
If you chose to modify the 730 harness then I would pull a harness out of a 730 ECM donor vehicle. It will have the colors you seek and the proper temp. grade.

You are going to need the LT1 PCM connectors......might as well get the whole harness.

I agree.

I've never done what you are talking about, but I've done a bunch of rewires for re-powers and all sorts of other things. I generally just go to a junk yard and buy a harness of the appropriate type. Most recently, I repowered my off road buggy, which started life as a 24V m1008 with 6.2 diesel, as an 89 350 TBI with civi 12V. I got the harness from the 89 donor and modified it to minimize it and fulfill my needs. So now I've got all the factory style connectors with matching color code wires and a stock 89 truck schematic provides the map for trouble shooting… I've done similar things with my 66 GTO, a 65 C10 truck, and several other conversions, all with great results.

And just for odds and ends, I've got a big ammo box in my garage that holds several more-or-less complete wiring harnesses (and bits-n-pieces) that donate specific color/gauge wires as needed, plugs, grommets, or whatever I need as I need it. Just recently started adding turn signals back to my buggy chassis and had all the correct wires and connectors right there in the box…

I found this guy but only after I got frustrated not being able to find the colors I wanted. I did my harness is STD solid colors.
I was a bit upset that I could have made it with the colors I really wanted.

Give him a try.
Without a doubt get the "TXL" wire as a minimum. "GXL" is thicker insulation for wires that may be suceptible to rubbing.
GXL is much larger and doing a complete harness makes bundles very large. Cost is greater too.

Have you ever compared an LT1 wiring diagram to a 7730? They're practically identical with respect to engine management (save for the opti and SEFI), even down to the colors of the wires. I really don't want to rewire the car for those couple of changes. It'd be so much simpler to route a few more wires for these items and then repin the ECM end to the LT1 PCM.

I'd also rather start out with some fresh wire since many of these LT1 cars are going on 10+ years old now.

Might also check with Terry over at www.rosesandwrenches.com I know he puts together custom harnesses and seems very responsive to DIY-type requests.

What colors, sizes, and lengths do you need? I've been building new TPI harnesses for the past 3 years. I also have the LT1/LS1 sizes/colors.

I have to purchase the wire in 1000ft lengths. I easily have 30,000+ ft in the garage of most sizes/colors. Occasionally I'm asked where I get my supplies...please don't ask.

Yes, I have wired a 94-95 LT1 harness. Oil temp sensor, trans. wiring, injector wiring, extra heated O2, IAC plug, TPS plug all come to mind. If you aren't running an LT1 TB then add that to it for cut & splice the old style on. Need LT1 PCM connectors too.
Not saying it is bad to use the 730 harness. The only things you get using it really is the correct IAC wire colors, some dizzy colors, IAT colors (maybe-I forget), cool temp colors. I would use the LT1 harness just for all of the injector & trans wires in themselves. You can go either way......it was just a suggestion.

By the way, are you running an E-trans. or do you plan to install some passive electronics to fool the PCM that the trans. is there?

SCORE! Again!

Went to a different boneyard this morning. These guys had this HUGE bin of wiring harnesses (I was dreading having to strip a harness out of a car again). I dug up a few GM harnesses with all of the colors I need. What's more, since it's Thanksgiving weekend, they were having a 50% off event. PIcked up a few harnesses and got out of there for about $25

Didn't see any LT1 powered cars there, so no PCM or opti today...

I have a non-electronics TH700R4 that's stand alone. I installed it way back when I had a carb. The lockup function operates independently of the 7730 that I'm currently running.

I was planning to leave the trans stand-alone. What happens with the PCM if you don't use the trans?

It doesn't work right.....throws SES. Put some resistors on the wires to simulate the coils and variable resistances that the trans has in it.

The question is then, what values of resistors would I need?

And what about a manual trans computer? Would that be better for a non-electronic automatic like mine?

I didn't see anything in the $EE code for Manual vs Automatic...
